Alright, space cadets what do you think about this: alien life discovered by NASA?

NASA hacked, ET found?
HUMANS are about to discover alien life, Nasa believes – according to the latest video from hacktivist group Anonymous.
The hackers published YouTube clip which claims a Nasa scientist made the announcement at the last meeting of the US Science, Space and Technology committee.
It comes after Nasa’s Kepler space observatory discovered 219 “potential new worlds” in other solar systems.
Ten of the planets are “rocky” like the Earth and fall in their systems’ “Goldilocks zone” – so-called because it is not too hot or too cold for life to exist.
In their video, Anonymous claimed head of Nasa Science Mission Directorate Professor Thomas Zurbuchen told the meeting: “Our civilisation is on the verge of discovering evidence of alien life in the cosmos.

After recently watching the move "Life" I'm not sure that bringing back evidence of life from other plants is a good idea.
Calvin pretty much fricked up everyone and would be almost unstoppable by humans.
So, if in fact, they do discover some sort of alien life form, they better not bring it to earth.

Won't have to worry about that. It is inevitable imo that we will find planets that possibly harbor life but until we learn to break the cosmic speed limit of "c" we will never get close enough to observe their biology. The universe is too big for us to be the only intelligent life.

ET hasn't been found but a prime habitable planet has. One of the 10 planets mentioned in the article is indeed very similar to earth. It is only 1.3 times bigger than our planet and orbits squarely within the habitable zone of its star which is a virtual twin of our sun. If it has a sizable moon it may be even more earth-like.
Of course, more study is necessary and will happen when the James Webb Space Telescope launches in 2018. It will be able to determine if the atmosphere of the planet has gases such as oxygen that indicate the presence of life.

You mean this alien?
LINK
I mean, when there's archaeologists running around with a body, it's pretty safe to say the jig is up for the U.S. government denying that extra-terrestrial life exists.

alright here's a question. Assuming the beings doing the finding are more intelligent than those who are found, would you rather us find intelligent life or it find us?

I would rather it be us that finds them. Lots of brilliant scientists believe that an intelligent alien species that find us are likely to be hostile and I agree.

You say this like they have an idea of what aliens would be like when in reality we don't have the slightest clue.

While I can get that point, as it is the basis of literally every alien movie, would part of you not be super depressed that out of everything that is out there, that we are truly the pinnacle of intelligence?

All we have to go on is history here on earth. When a more advanced civilization arrives on new land we have always saw the natives mistreated or killed. Native Americans come to mind but it was pretty much the case in all situations like that. It makes sense to me.

I would have no problem knowing we were the most advance form of intelligent life in the galaxy. Sure a more advanced civilization could help us with technology and answer questions that have given modern physicists headaches but the quest for knowledge itself is great for mankind so if someone showed up tomorrow with all the answers I'm not sure it would be a good thing in the long term.

Actually, we can project what they'll be like based upon evolutionary possibilities. Most likely they'll be machines. It isn't cost effective to transport biological organisms through space.
We are at the threshold of a world dominated by artificial intelligence here on earth. Doubtless it's already been done by other civilizations.

I think their projections are based upon the evolution of humans. Certainly we have evolved as a hostile primate.
However, hostility is not a rule for all primates. In fact, it seems that only the common chimps and modern humans employ hostility, especially towards other members of their species, on a large scale. Bonobo chimps and many archaic humans don't have a preference for violence.
So, alien species may actually be peaceful explorers. I don't think a presumption of hositility is justified. We should be cautious, yes, but not averse to making contact with alien species.

Like I said we have no clue.

Oh. Ok. Yeah we know everything. Keep going with that.
