I'm not really siding with one or the other but in some states (such as MS) you can get a concealed carry permit without demonstrating any firearms knowledge whatsoever. As long as you aren't a heinous criminal and full out the paperwork you are good to go

Which is how it is in Alabama

I would be perfectly fine with teaching firearm safety and ones Constitutional Rights in a school setting.

Perhaps, but there are many more important things that schools should worry about focusing on rather than firearm education.

Paying a fee to the State to exercise that Right is absurd. And education is not a part of receiving a CC permit in many states. Most are becomi,g shall issue states and its simply about taking revenue in.

Yes, and having no education is silly...that was my point. I can see what you're saying about them only taking in revenue and I also disagree with that.

How are licenses and gun education related? All I do is pay a fee, they do a background check and I have a license.

I learned nothing about guns in the process.

I understand some states do it this way. In Tennessee, and in Kentucky (according to Kentucky), there is a mandatory class with a subsequent weapons qualification. As I have indicated, I think having a class is a good idea.

Yes, I do, too. In fact, I felt much better about our CC laws after having taken the class. It was jam packed and there were lots of women in the class. I think every woman should pack heat in these crazy times.

Seems like serial killers target them because they think they're weak. A 9mm is a big equalizer.

Anyway, the gun range training was exceptional. It emphasized defense, of course, and I think a lot of the women felt better about being able to defend themselves. As a test we had to fire 18 rounds at a human image from 20'. We had to hit it 11 times to pass. Everyone passed on the first round.

Yes, I seriously do since that can be the only source of firearm education for some.

You would be fine for it in public schools funded with tax money but are against paying a fee for a permit? Idk what the fees are in other states, but I paid a very reasonable fee to get a CC in Tennessee.

Alabama's CC permit has no education requirement, only a background check- the depth of which is at the discretion of the county sheriff - who also gets to keep all the fees for his department.

In Alabama, it is indeed about nothing but the money.

Its absurd that you need a permit to essentially have even an unloaded pistol in your car, unlocked.

You can get a ticket/arrested for just having it in the back seat unloaded on the way to the range

Watch your speed on the back roads in AL folks, local sheriffs are going to need a new revenue stream

Sheriffs will never be too heavily involved in the business of traffic citations. That's one good thing about it being an elected position.
