After Apocalypse dining, by Harry Rex Vonner. Foods that basically never expire

Here's the big ones:
White rice, dried beans, honey, basic sugar, and soy sauce and salt
They basically never expire. I'm not going to list "oh, well this one will expire in two decades"
Eat the white rice and and honey or the white rice with some brown sugar. Breakfast or a sweet snack.
Beans and soy sauce.
You'll need a wood burning stove to cook it all. And trees for wood of course.
Harry Rex says hello from the past. Glad you're alive

Most canned meats last 2-5 years before opening, according to the interwebs.

This is why the world would really be fricked in an apocalypse. Unless we got lucky and it killed off a high enough percentage of people.
But if we have to support 3 billion people after an apocalypse on a preindustrial economy the world is gonna be stripped of trees in like a decade.

Technically not food, but I inherited a 40 year old bottle of Scotch. If Mizzou ever wins a big game I'll open it !
Edit for this :
( Probably what my uncle said too )

Drank some 150 year old rum that had been recovered from a ship wreck in oak barrels.

If your own personal Apocalypse is becoming poor white rice and frozen leg quarters, combined with a few cheap spices, can feed you dirt cheap for a month.
It won't be great, but you'll get a good enough mix of nutrients to keep you going, especially if you add some beans every now and then.
