The first three posters in this thread weren't on the SECr that night and shouldn't speak on the topic of should this or should this not be on the Rant. It most definitely should be here as many of us remember the thread that we had that night and all of the constant updates and checking in from safety from many regular posters on here. This very much has to do with the SECr.

From tragedy come heroes, all kinds. Was awful, absolutely awful. What happened afterwards was awesome, people happened.

Prayers continue for the families who lost loved ones. Prayers continue for those still rebuilding their lives, and especially prayers for the heroes - all of you helping out.

I was glued to my TV and the SECr... and then grabbed my dog and cat and cowered in the bathroom as it made its way to Birmingham.

The tornado passed less than 100yds from my apt on Hackberry/Hargrove. It was the first and only time I truly feared for my life. I held on to my wife and dog with everything I had........I didn't want us to be apart if we were going to be leaving this life.

tornado hit Bama, sad tragic event, but doesn't really have to do with SEC sports. this thread belongs on the OT board

The Hell it does. This board was paramount for updates that day.

This. Can't remember which frequent Bama poster it was, but they drove through a family member's neighborhood in Madison, AL that I couldn't get in touch with after one of the tornadoes went through that area. Was legit as frick.

Very similar for me. I live off of Kicker Road, it was probably a quarter of a mile away. When I heard that dull rumbling getting louder and louder, becoming a roar, I nearly shite my pants. But suddenly, it started getting quieter.

For the first time that I've lived on my street (for over 4 years), we all came out of our houses and talked to each other. One guy on the street started grilling hamburgers because our power had gone out (it was about 5:00) and no one had eaten dinner.

I wanted to go out badly, but I knew that I'd just get in the way. I didn't want to stop the people that knew what they were doing. The traffic on Kicker was unbelievable, people stopped in front of our street for 30 minutes and hadn't moved.

used to live in Fountain Blue apartments that were renamed Charlston Square. The corner of that thing took a direct hit. That was 1983 for me when I lived there. Saw big Jon Hand once there and he looked like the biggest person I had ever seen. The entire complex had too much damaged and it has sense been torn down. I don't know if they are rebuilding it or not.

My brother was down in Tuscaloosa at the time, none of my family could get ahold of him to warn him except me, as I got through and was telling him, the tornado was a street over. As he was saying he was going to the clubhouse the phone just cut out. You could tell the terror in his voice, I had honestly never heard him like that before. Immediately I fear the worst and call my parents to let them know I did talk to him, but it went out as the tornado was going over him. My dad got in his truck and went straight into the storms from Marietta to Tuscaloosa to make sure he was okay. Luckily he was, but the pictures I saw I don't know how, everything around him was destroyed. Apartments, houses, businesses, cars tipped. It looked like a movie scene. Incredible day, and lucky to still have my brother. A day I will always remember. Prayers still go out to those who lost loved ones. Even not being able to contact my brother for 3 hours, seemed like a lifetime, I can't imagine never being able to get that call through to hear he's was ok.

Yea the lack of communication was the scariest thing. I wasn't able to talk to my folks until the next morning. I feel terrible for them worrying sick about me

That's one of the worst parts. Takes you back to the Stone Age.

Lost one of my best friends in that storm. I definitely have a heavy heart when this day comes back around.

I certainly remember that day. The destruction was awful.

Nearly a year later, another tornado system rampaged throughout the South, killing 22 Kentuckians and leveling the town of West Liberty. 19 other people, most of them southerners, also died that day.

May all those affected by both storm systems find solace in the memories of lost loved ones.

My mom's house sits across from the tide for Christ student baptist center. Church gone house 100 meters away gone, she had trees uprooted and two small holes in the roof.

Two friends from high school went there to wade it out... The scene that Saturday when I went to help cleanup.....
