I planned to do it forever ago but I ended up having a kid I didn't want to leave.

But now I'm thinking it could be good for me. And her in the long run.

I'm not fat as hell or anything . Not in ultra shape or anything either.

But still.

Great age. You're old enough to see through ticky tack bullshite. But, flip side is you'll be wondering why you're painting rocks for no apparent reason, and now you're old enough to put too much thought into it.

Nope. You're gonna be starting at the bottom with everyone else about 2 emotional development levels below you. Your peers and your superiors are both gonna see you as a loser who couldn't cut it in the real world and you will be the last on the promotion list due to this stigma. It's a really bad idea.

Go get the GI Bill and do your four years. Don’t join the Corps. Use the 100% tuition assistance while in. If you get hurt, document it so the VA will cover it afterwards.

That was assumed because you were referring to the Corps.

Bad assumption. I work in a VA now. If I have a grown man melt like a pre-pubescent girl when I have to start an IV and he has tats, he's a soldier. If he doesn't have tats he's Air Force. Me and the Surgeon who was an Army Colonel before he retired have accepted it as a truism, much to his chagrin.

No, you should find a real job/career.

You will be living on food stamps and government assistance while risking your life to the benefit of foreign countries and the profits of the MIC.

Unless you just for sure know you are going to be a lifer and that you will for sure retire - work on finding a real career. Become an electrician, a plumber or whatever. Learn it, and eventually in 10-15 years maybe start your own business. You don't need to go to college to be successful.

What Branch and MOS you choose is going to be a larger deciding factor if 29 is too old.

What branch and MOS were you thinking of? Also, follow what LewDog said,

Use the military, because sure as shite, the military will use you. The military offers a ton of programs that can set you up for life. Most early enlisted dudes don't take advantage of them.

I would maybe parlay what you're experienced in now into what may be an opportunity in the military. I would think an enlistment office could help with this.

It’s perfect; at 29 you won’t get 2 DUIs and marry a stripper in the same weekend. I had broken time and went back in when I was 30. Best move I ever made and stayed in for a total of 22 years.

I thought about doing Army Reserve or National Guard as a side gig when I was 27. But I was smoking cigarettes then and I figured I would die of a heart attack in boot camp, so I decided against it.

True story.

I had a dude that smoked so much he got the UPC code for Marlboro Lights tattooed on the inside of his wrist.

I think you'd be even more likely to get sent to a war zone than active duty.

I kid to some degree, but I was always amazed at how often reserve units were called up to be deployed.
