I was there. Big Earnhardt fan and always listened to the scanner.
Everybody in racing knew it was bad right away.
Things I will never forget.
Mike Skinner telling his crew chief to tell Richard (Childress) that he needed to get Teresa and Dale Jr, that it wasn't good.
Dale's spotter continuing to ask if he was ok. Several minutes after the EMTs got there.
Many other comments from spotters and drivers when they circled back around.
I sat in turn 1, when I got back to the parking spot, I found some people from turn 4. I wanted to know one thing, did they cover his car up?
Yes. I knew then.
