Time piece investment? I see a trend in some serious deals popping up.

I had to pull the trigger this afternoon when this watch became available I had been looking at one a year ago and someone beat me to it for $2k more which was still a good deal.

I have wanted this watch for a decade or more and at this price with complete documents, box, and manual I'm sure I could sell it 20 years down the road and not lose a penny.

Tigerdroppings got the reference and their adds got me again!

USED ROLEX EXPLORER II 16570 WATCH.

"time piece" is douchebag-speak for "watch"

That's not s very nice comment?

"Time piece" is correct as would be "wrist watch".

The price here for this one was after taxes was around $7600.00

In present condition with maintenance records and the original box, coupled with all supporting documentation that along with provided C&C certification made this a high value investment IMO.

I wouldn't let this one go for anything less than $9100.00 and I ain't letting go.

Somebody needed the money and I helped them out.

I would mention there are some other very nice deals out there right now like I haven't seen since 2009.

Rolex watches hold or increase in value overall with few exceptions.

That’s a nice Rolex. A friend of mine collects vintage watches and he attests to how well they hold their value.

A coworker has an Omega Seamaster that I might buy. He recently got it appraised and they came back with $2500 and he will sell it to me for $2000. I'm going to let it stew for a few months and if he still hasn't sold it, offer him $1400 which is what he originally paid. Probably settle somewhere in the middle.

I just bought a Rolex sub...love it.

Have my old omega seamaster sitting in my safe. Need to have it serviced.

A wristwatch is not an investment under any circumstances.

People that say "no watch is an investment" don't know the market. Some are, most aren't. The SS 5 digit Explorer is one of the least sought after ss sport Rolex watches.

If you like it, wear it daily and decide to sell it or trade it in 10 years you will be ok, likely.

You could also be like some and buy a breitling or tag for $4500 and no one offer you $500 for them tomorrow. Ultimately, wear something you like to look at.

Steve McQueen gave the explorer and then the explorer 2 its branding appeal and established its cult following of adventurers, celebrities, and everyday sports enthusiast.

It's really not even a proven fact that McQueen ever even owned one but, rumor was enough to build the line.

That's star power right there.

Prince Harry wore one in Afghanistan, Matt Damon wears one, Tom Hanks, Ian Fleming wore an original explorer which has a six digit number not that it means anything and the line holds its own following much like the others do.

I would say that like any investment tangible or not one must know the market and do research before investing.

I buy Breitlings for half original cost and Hublots for less. This way I don't lose money. Some brands despite great quality don't hold value.

Richard Mills is built on social media perception alone, one day, that's going to possibly change not that I have a quarter million to drop on a watch...

Will I wear this one? I don't know yet honestly as it has everything and I have others but I might take it to Africa next year on a hunt the temptation may win out. That is if the covids lets up and travel resumes.

Crown & Caliber was the shop I saw advertised here for some years now. There are other great shops out there as well e-bay is not one of those.

When I was younger, I always wore a watch and thought one day I would get a Rolex. with the ubiquity of phones, PCs, microwaves, TVs, etc. with the time always easily accessible, I quite wearing a watch and now have zero desire for one of any kind.

A relative says he is leaving me his Rolex, which is nice, but I doubt I will ever wear it. Some lucky relative of mine will probably find it in my deposit box after I croak and sell it at the pawn shop to buy weed.

I don’t think there’s any money to be made buying a rolex on the secondary market. The value may go up, but probably not that much. Now, if you were able to buy a new Daytona at msrp, you could flip it immediately for some serious cash.

ETA: There’s always a chance that you may have the piece that for some reason is super collectible 20 years down the road.

I'm listening, and I agree with a lot of what you say, however we can look at the Submarinar "Hulk" and see significant value has increased from purchase price. It's because of rumor that that line is coming to an end (or it may have I haven't checked on those in a while).

You just can't walk into a dealer and buy a new one or you can but it's going to be at least a year out before you can take possession of it.

Daytona's, Pepsi, and Grand Yacht Masters are on a whole different level.

I don't play at that level as now you are talking real money.

A man must know his limitations IMO.

This Explorer suits me and I could justify it as an everyday watch.

This one is a 2003 I can go either way and not lose sleep.

Why? Other than snob appeal, what makes them special?

Anybody who makes an “investment” in a wristwatch has no business making investments.

You take $10,000 and drop it in a fund and you’ll make more money in 10 years then you would with any watch similarly priced.

If anything, people should say Rolex maintains value.

$7600 compounded annually at 7% is $29,400. Could you sell it for $30k in 20 years? That’s an investment.

That is an opinion based on what actually?

A portfolio of investments has many checks and balances. My suggestions are for those of whom, have covered the basics and reaped the rewards.

This an 'accessory level' investment process for those of whom has figured that out.

I apologize if you thought this was a significant investment strategy.

My idea here was just to bring attention to great deals and how some fun collecting can actually pan out if you are careful and fiducially observant.

Sorry if that offended anyone.
