You think Drinkwitz would leave in 2023?

He's got his recruits and everything for a 10 win season next year. If he hits those expectations, do you think he would leave?

I don't think he'd leave, I'd think he'd RUN.

No...I think he wants to build something in CoMo....and not in the way Zo has.

Nope. He would need 2-3 years of success. If he came over as an assistant from Bama or UGA, maybe he gets a shot after good 1 year, but being from Mizzou, he's gonna have to stack 3 years.

It really depends on what he wants. If he can recruit very well to Mizzou the only real reason to leave is because somewhere elite is calling him and he thinks he can win national championships there while being unable to at Mizzou. Mizzou has show it is obviously willing to spend big money on the big sports in the last decade (it didn't necessarily workout as basketball has shown). Or if he wants to go NFL.

If he can recruit well (assuming he coaches well because if he doesn't we aren't really worried about him leaving) I doubt salary is an issue that boosters won't make up for. I don't really see a good reason he'd want to go unless a handful of elite teams call him.

Any reason or thought behind why you would think this? Drink is bringing in a top 15 class (with upside to be a top 12 class nationally). To me this does not seem like he wants out, rather he is doubling down to build something here in COMO. I just feel like if he were already planning a next step it would show up on the recruiting trail results.

Lots of coaching carousel this year indeed, but there are lots of proven coaches out there that I would think are more front-and-center between the NCAA and NFL ranks but maybe thats just me. Would think the Tigers would start talking extension for Drink next year (year 3 of his 6 year contract)but I guess we will see.

Are we willing to pay him 8M plus per year?

He is still young, I think he's about the same age as Lincoln Riley. Now age is not important but mindset is important.. Long gone are the days of basically lifetime coaches like Bob Stoops, Kirk Ferentz, Pinkel, Bill Snyder, Gundy, etc..

They are constantly looking for a better situation and will jump quick when the opportunity comes up. He did only stay at App State for a year.

If he wins 10 games next year and puts up awesome offensive numbers and say hypothetically, a team like Oregon (or on that level) comes to ask him for a job for more money with better facilities and easier schedule... I think we all know the answer.

Yeah Drink is the same age as Lincoln (38), and would tend to agree most coaches do not stay at the same institution their whole careers, but if there was a conference for that to happen it would most likely be in the SEC at this point because of the facilities, athletic department budgets, and prestige as a whole.

I agree with another post in this thread about it will depend on what Drink ultimately wants, but the jump from a Sunbelt team to the SEC is not comparable from the SEC to another P5. I am not saying Mizzou's job is the most attractive on the market but our facilities are continuing to make strides as well as having legitimate benefits of being the only FBS institution in the state. Couple that with the recruiting successes and Drink's ties to the Southeast I think he is in a pretty good spot for himself with us or for the next step if that is somewhere else (Another SEC school perhaps, or NFL). So far all the results point to him making the most of his current situation, and selling the future vision to recruits which would have me to believe at this time he's pretty happy where he is at but I guess time will tell.

Anything other than a "Blue Blood" would be a lateral move for equivalent money. By the end of this coaching cycle the BBs will have their coach's set for the next 3 to 5 years.

We have at least that long to see what he can do. If he builds a consistent winner here by then, it becomes just how much money does the admin want to give him. And from what I hear from my Boss/Booster, the admin have finally realized how good an investment the football program is. IE put money in, get double or more back in the long run in investments, trusts, scholarships and overall student numbers. (Basketball is not seen this way currently BTW)

Even then, the sheer arrogance of some of these programs will prevent them from offering (see LSU and Napier). So the number of programs that can make that unmatchable offer are very few indeed.

In any case, I can only see it as a good problem to have.

Add some one if you like but to me these are the Blue bloods:
Bama
Lsu
Georgia
Florida
Texas
Oklahoma
USC
UCLA
Michigan
Ohio State
Clemson
Notre Dame

Several got new coaches this year and I think one of these jobs is the only way he leaves. Some of those may have openings in 2 years though. Clemson, UCLA, I’m looking at you.

I don't realistically see any of these as landing spots for Drink in 23'

Possible? Yes. But, not at all likely.

My man. This is college football. Anything can happen, now more than ever.

I used Oregon as an example specifically because they aren't a blue blood but offer everything better than Mizzou - more money, easier schedule, better facilities, better NIL opportunities for players, so yeah you bet he's gone if that was offered. There are other teams that can do that as well without it being labeled as a lateral move. It'd be an upgrade quite frankly.

Are you kidding? Mizzou has a rich history...no way...you're in the best college conference in the weaker divison Mizzou is a very good job...Pinkel proved it or he would of gone to Washington

I agree. Drink knows Mizzou took a chance on him too. Not saying coaches are loyal, but if you add that to him needing to build a perennial 9-11 win program at Mizzou- he is here for probably 4-5 years at least.

Again, Gary Pinkel is part of the old guard. Those coaches that are both elite and loyal, are a thing of the past for mid-tier schools like Mizzou, and even some blue blood schools as we have seen with the recent coaching vacancies.

That's a great point, both needed each other at the time, but we are talking projections, money, facilities, NIL, recruiting, schedule, etc.. Drinkwitz has been here two years, he kind of reminds me of a Lane Kiffin lite, young - slightly arrogant, decent social media skills, and like Lane - very likely to move to the next best offer if he meets his goal here of say, 10 wins. He's definitely cut from the cloth of the new guard coaches where loyalty is only as good as what offers he's getting.
