Mizzou was 2 points away from a contract extension and raise for Cuonzo.

No...

we did dodge a bullet. At the very least, the AD would have had second guesses about moving on, which would delay the coaching search.

It’s kind of a shame. The team is playing better. But we have zero talent and zero inside presence. We’re going to lose a lot of close games the rest of the way while giving up 20+ offensive rebounds.

An honest assessment of next year’s team and I think the best case scenario is a bubble team. Then we lose Kobe and without a major talent infusion over the next two years (which we haven’t done since we hired Michael Porter Sr.), we’re back to a bottom quarter of the SEC team.

You can’t be rebuilding every other year.

Cuonzo is gonna get another year.

If he doesn't get a PG and another big, that will be it.

1 more season of garbage offense and near misses on deck.

Maybe a decent coach comes available in late 2023...

Martin is this: He'll have as many NCAA teams as teams who are .500. If you're into that sorta thing, he's your man.

His best teams, may reach the 2nd round, who is worst teams will lose to UMKC, Liberty, Charleston southern etc.

And dont get carried away with making the tourney. I'll give him a pass with Porters bc of injury, but last years tourney team was SENIOR HEAVY, and I'll be honest, 16-10 with a first round exit should be around our normal year, not his best year.

The more I sit around thinking about it, I also think he will get another.

And agree, Without a starting PG AND capable big, we're just as bad.

That team could’ve moved to the Philippines and been renamed the Manila Folders. After beating a ranked Alabama at home, we went 3-7 the rest of the way.

Which will just solidify that we don’t care about basketball.

We will finish somewhere around 13-17 this year. With losses to UMKC and Liberty. And 20-30 pt losses to every team that borders our state (though we might keep it respectable against Iwegia St).

This is Cuonzo basketball. He'll win a game or two we have no business winning. Get blown out when a team has better shooters and lose close games when a superior team has an off night on offense.

His offensive scheme in 5 years (and beyond) just shows that the game has overcome his coaching acumen.

And adding guys like Gordon just proves that he has no clue in recruiting.

I'm going to preface this by saying CM 100% needs to go now.

Having said that, is it possible that DRF may want to get the AD cleaned up and shined up to make the job more attractive to better candidates? There are so many open roles right now I could see it taking another year to get all key cogs hired and everything primed and ready to go to support a good coach.

Also, what if when May comes, theres really no coaches worth taking. I dont see the point in firing Martin when theres not a good pool to pick from. Almost might as well wait one more year from Kobe to be done (?)

You have to move on well before May. That’s the point. You can’t wait until then

Doesn't make any sense unless you are only considering coaches who got fired.

Probably costs another $2M. But that’s what happens with a God awful contract.

If that’s what it takes. May is essentially too late to do anything barring some odd circumstances
