I really hate being this guy, but...if these rumors are true and this is a long term drug addiction with whispers around campus, what was the staff thinking? Instead of watching his declining play why wasn't he in rehab?
And yes, these guys know what's going on, its always a question of does it interfere with football.
I'm really hoping the rumors aren't true. I hope it was weed, and we move on. When something like this happens, all the second and third account stories pop up online.

A guy like Mauk doesn't need "weed", it's not gonna help his game any and it certainly will hamper his ability to "think his way" out of his problems. The only people who don't realize how much weed hampers their thinking are the stoners smoking it.

To me it's like alcohol, some handle it far better than others, and while it's not appropriate for getting behind the wheel, what you do on your time in your place is your business.

maybe time to extend team curfews to a few more days of the week then, I'd like to see him get cleaned up if that's the case.
I still think he could be a valueable backup off the bench and maybe help out Whitter backing up Hansbrough. He is a fearless gamer, who would not be afraid to come up and put hit on a blitzing LB/SS, and he would have about as good a chance to break a reverse handoff for a long run as anyone else we have.

I know a reporter that has pretty tight connections, and she said there is definitely something to the rumors. She has told this before and has known a lot of other things that ended up to be true too. I hope he gets some help and we can get him back in the game next week.

Mauk is suspended. Of course he knows what's going on. If it is coke, you don't release that kind of information to the public. Well, unless there are legal implications, which immediately makes it available to the public...

Id like to know when the staff became aware of his problem. There may have been rumors, but assuming the staff knew of the rumors and confronted him, he denied it and his tests were clean, they had nothing that was actionable. I'm guessing he was either seen by someone in the program or had a dirty test recently.
