So, here we are (Mauk/Lock)

As I expected, and probably most others, Lock played the better game.
I don't sense much of a controversy right now, but how many weeks does this continue before we have a full blown controversy?

Nothing to see here until Mizzou loses with Mauk playing badly. And that's assuming Lock continues to do well.

Mauk looks better than he did last year. I'm not a Maukite, but we should have had two more TDs on WR drops. There's a lot less controversy if those TDs happen.
All that to say that as long as Mauk shows growth or as long as we are consistently winning, I don't think Pinkel makes a move. Our Oline and running game could influence that.

Yea take away drops, which coaches do when they evaluate players and Mauks numbers are likely 250 yards, 4 touchdowns, no picks, & 60% completions.
Lock just looks more smooth in his play.

There will be no controversy this year as long as we keep winning. A mediocre Mauk that is 7-0 will lead to no controversy. We lose 3 games and the controversy will begin.
The real controversy will come next year. Remember, Lock didn't practice last spring. He's surpassed everyone with just summer drills led by the players and a couple/few weeks of fall camp. Give him a full spring and beyond and I don't know how he's not the starter next season.

I agree about Mauk. He still has some of his bad habits, but they're not as pronounced. Mauk seems to have matured into the role a bit. Now if him or his dad or his brother or whoever would set their ego aside and have Mauk work with a specialist in the offseason, he could be really solid.
Regarding Lock, he just seems to have such great field vision for a true freshman.

I agree that there won't be much of a controversy if we keep winning. I do think Lock is the better QB though.
I don't know how long you sit the better player just to not upset the apple cart.
To be clear though. I don't think Mauk played poorly at all. Few poor decisions, but overall pretty good.

Mauk did look really good at times. So sharp with his passes. Quick twitch legs.
But he still hasn't grown up. And that means he never will.
Too many deep passes.
He's like capitilism.
He's good for a big play. For big growth.
But he's not sustainable.
He looks at the short term. Not the long term.
He wants the big play.
He doesn't want to chip away with 6-7 yard passes.
In the end, it will cost us.

Yes, capitAlism is up and down. I guess socialism is sustainable until it runs-out of others money. USSR? Bless your heart.
It's Mauk's job to lose or become injured. His interception was classic "super bad with brain-check-out" Mauk. That crap is in his DNA. It's MM's team, how far will he take us???
Somebody said something about getting Mauk specialty help. Never (big word) gonna happen. It's a family deal with his brother and dad.
Lock is the real deal and smooth, but a freshman. I remember Kenny Thrill at aTm.
OL is the real issue.

The fans always have a controversy. Thank god the fans have never mattered at least in CoMo
Don't show up to basketball games because of "work"
Don't sell pack the stadium in football because it's hot or we don't play anybody

Who would be the backup then? You think Mauk wouldn't transfer to FCS? I mean if I have over 20 wins as a starter in 2 and 1\3 season. Why should I be benched my senior year..
Guess we are hoping only mauk and berk leave next year

Hopefully Zanders stays.
We need to find a QB in this class for sure.

Mauk will stay as starter. He had some boneheaded plays(the pick) but he finds ways to win games.

Everybody, take a step away from the edge.
I think it's totally premature at this point with one game played to start trying to yank Mauk for Lock. There is a huge difference in defense and defensive coverage between SEMO's secondary and say Georgia's secondary. There is a big gap in talent here. Mauk has the experience in the SEC gauntlet, Lock doesn't. Not saying Lock won't be good but let the kid get his feet wet with a few series against a good defense before taking that step over the edge. Mauk has his faults but he has proven himself in the SEC.

We had another QB prospect. But this staff decided for some reason not to pursue him. He beat Lock in a head to head game last year in HS. But this QB prospect probably won't give Coach Hill the time of day now since I believe he has committed to K-State when Hill decided to I guess not pursue him.
Skylar Thompson.

I see what you are saying, but pinning W/L records on one player is kind of silly. Football is the ultimate team sport.

Um, silly how? QB position can be both teamwork and is also very individual effort and talent also. Besides the center position, the QB probably touches the ball more than any other player on the team, generally when it counts as either a win or loss for the entire team.

Because it's silly. Did Mauk win us the SCAR or Florida games last year? Would we not have won more with a better QB? Less with a worse one?
The W/L record is not Mauk's. It's the teams, of which he is a part of.

Dude, never mind. You don't really get it.
