Does anyone think that late hit to his shoulder on his first run was the reason his throws were so off last night?

He was way off. Didn't help that his receivers had butter fingers either.

All I know is I don't know.

Some of the throws were absolutely miserably off. Some of the throws were difficult on the run, tough to make. Some of the throws were just dropped.

We won though, and now get to move on to the bench _____ and get ______ in there. (Insert as you see fit)

A. Mauk
B. Printz
C. Hosick

I'll have to rewatch the game, but he seemed to make a lot of throws while he was on the move out of the pocket avoiding pressure that he otherwise might have just tucked and run in previous games.

Add that to the hype and just having a bad night and it was overall pretty brutal.

When he started to look for the run and pass he was unstoppable.

There were a lot of times I thought he should have just taken off last night, but he hung around and tried to force some throws.

I think the shoulder was in the back of his mind.

Glad he gritted it out, even though I was screaming for MfM most of the third quarter.

This brings up a point I've discussed with my guy a few times this season. If you're the coaches, what do you do with Hosick? He's 3rd, and from the sound of things, not likely to start at qb without injuries affecting Mauk and Printz. Do you let an athlete that good hang around on the sidelines? He was an all-state qb and state heavyweight wrestling champ!

Watching Derrick Henry in the Sugar Bowl decided it for me. I think I would try to convert Hosick to an H-back. He was a stud running qb, so he has that ability, and should have great field vision. He could also be a receiver (like TJ Moe) that plays qb on wildcat packages.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

This QB discussion is going to hang around all offseason. Lots of folks on here seem to think Printz will give Mauk a run for his money, I'm not sure why. Experience is everything, and Mauk got tons of it this season.

As far as Hosick goes, who knows what they'll do with him. I agree, he seems to be an athletic asset. I wonder if he can play safety? I think his story will get sorted out this spring.

Somewhere I swear I read Hosick insists playing QB, ala Tebow. My guess is he transfers out if that's true. If I'm Mizzou, I try to talk him into switching positions though.

If Mauk didn't get as much playing time as he did this year, I would have put my money on Printz. Now, with all the playing time under his belt, I would not be shocked, nor unhappy, if it ends up being Mauk. Good situation to be in but I'd better the loser transfers.

I hope Printz takes the job next season for a few reasons...
a) It means the staff thinks he is better than Mauk, and Mauk was pretty damn good this year
b) I have a $10 bet that Printz starts week 1

throws seemed high a big percentage of the time they were off, and when he played injured last season, throwing high was his biggest problem

During the down time I had started re-watching some of the early games and Franklin was a different quarterback. Much better accuracy and with a higher percentage of deeper routes.

When he returned teams seemed to tighten the coverage box on him, challenging him to throw the longer and intermediate routes - in stark contrast to when Mauk was in there. At any rate, I'm glad we won and glad Franklin made a few plays down the stretch since Pinkel was going to go down with the ship on JF.

Can't wait to see what Mauk can do with a full off-season and intense coaching to mitigate his bad habits.

I thought the whole time he was being recruited that he would never play at down at QB for us. I watched him in HS and he is a talented runner but he does not throw the ball like a decent D1 QB. I would love to see him at safety. He played QB like he wanted to hurt someone.

Pinkel has always made it a point that he doesn't force players to play positions they don't want. If Hosick wants to battle it out at QB, that's fine. If he's open to the idea of changing - GREAT!

My opinion on Franklin was that the Offensive Line was horrible the first 3 quarters and James was constantly monitoring the defense to avoid the pressure instead of looking downfield and stepping into the throw. Even when Mauk came in, he ran instead of throwing downfield. Jimmy Bean had the best game of his season for OSU.

I agree. I watched 2 of his games and was not impressed with his QB skills. Great athlete, but thought then, might be better suited at a different position. If he doesn't want to, well it'll be nice to have him as a backup or he will transfer because I don't see him ever beating Mauk or Printz out (barring injuries).

Since he got to Missouri, Coach Pinkel has always been all about letting players compete where they want. So Hosick would not transfer over that, per se. Pinkel and his staff have also always been honest about where he felt kids could get the most playing time and realize their best potential, including the NFL. It's their choice to switch or not. Kids usually respect that. I don't have the stats to back it up, but my guess is that we don't have nearly as many players transferring as other schools due to that.

I think Pinkel does it the right way. I just wish the kid had a desire to play that exceeded his desire to be a QB(and I'm not saying the kid doesn't work his butt off to become the #1 QB). That's where my Tebow comparison came in. I just don't see how he's going to see the field at QB absent injuries and by all accounts he's a great athlete with remarkable drive/work ethic.
