Talked to one of the coaches yesterday and asked about signees. He said they have signed 2 players and have one verbal commitment for next year...and will sign at least one more on top of those three. He stated they're "really excited about the three we already got."

I admit to not being up on recruiting.

Anyone tell me who these players are?

Puryear & VanLeer are their schools all time leading scorers.
Puryear at around 1500, VanLeer at over 2000.
Phillips will pass Rondo as his teams all time assist leader. Maybe steals as well

Phillips is an attacking PG, something this team doesn't have.
When VanLeer signed Fulford was quoted saying he was the best shooter they scouted over the AAU season.
Puryear is a more offensively advanced left handed version of Allen. Maybe not quite the defender though.

We're hoping they're "glue guys." None of them are tremendously talented. We need some immediate help in scoring and inside play. And based on the recruiting that we know about, the immediate inside help doesn't appear to be coming.

I feel like KA made a marketing move by signing some Missouri kids that might not normally get offers in order to get back to recruiting Missouri. I'm not sure he anticipated this season being as bad as it has turned out.

Thanks, guys. As a casual fan, it's great to have access to your collective insights and opinions.

The recruits for next year are nothing to be too excited for, but next year is the year we could land the #1 player in the nation in Tatum, not likely, but possible. But after that, theres another top 5 player in the country in Michael Porter Jr., who many see as a Mizzou lock. We can only hope so.

Seems to me KA wanted Missouri kids in the next class. Seems these guys were 3rd, 4th, 5th or more down the line and were only taken when others (Whitt/Morgan) said no thanks to Mizzou. I suspect they would be quality players in the MVC. Might be marginal contributors at the high major level, serving in complimentary roles being the 7th, 8th or 9th guys off the bench. Hopefully I'm wrong and they develop into starter type talent, but I don't see it.

Hmmm. The schools that offered VanLeer aren't exactly top flight, are they?

Maybe he's a diamond in the rough.

Michael Porter is no where near a lock. I am hearing we are on the outside looking in right now for him. He will go to a blue blood if KA doesn't get it turned around. Good thing is he has time to do that but right now it is not looking good. Tatum is most likly heading to Duke with gulp Kansas his next choice.

Yeah, KA made it a point to get some Missouri kids no matter what to please the older folks screaming that there were no local kids on the team. He missed on Whitt, Morgan, and Lambet who are all 4* kids and took whatever was left. They're not going to be superstars and wouldn't have gotten offers from previous Mizzou coaches, but KA isn't the best recruiter so hes taking what he can get and hoping he can mold them into a good team. Time will tell if that's a good idea or not. Even the JUCO kids he has offered a couple are originally from Missouri, so he's having to stay regional/local to get players.

I think the hope is that if we start winning he'll have something to sell and can start pulling in top 150 guys.

He had like two weeks to recruit Whitt, while making sure the other commitments didn't leave.......that's not his fault.

I don't know about Puryear's school, but I probably could have set the all time scoring record at Pacific if I had gone there, and I couldn't even make my high school team.

I don't know if it's a knock on KA but more of an indication of what to expect on the court next year.

He did score 2,000 in HS which is kinda cool.

But it's simply not top flight competition. Our HS is in the same half of the 3A bracket and has a decent chance to end up playing Pacific. I'm interested to see him live.

To act like KA missed on Whitt is not really fair....

He took Puryear while Morgan was still available. Perhaps he knew he wasn't going to get Morgan. It was early enough in recruiting that they didn't need to take him at that time. That is unless they really wanted him. Same for VanLeer.

They could have waited until 4/15/15 to offer either of those kids and both would have jumped at the opportunity.

I agree. To act like we have a good class coming in next year isn't smart.

I'm not blaming KA fully, but he is a local kid we wanted and we didn't get and he went to one of our rivals, it's still a miss.

Depends on what we want to call good. I think the three commits all fill needs.
In the games that I have seen them matched up against players committed to other power conference schools they have more than held their own.
We do still have some holes. Need a strong interior player, need a scorer with range, and will need ball handling help.
So far all the guys committed are players that will be role players early in their careers, and maybe all 4 years.
