How is Kim better? Honest question, because I don’t know much about coaching capabilities of either.

I think Mizzou fans are asking how is Kim demonstrably worse?
Posted on 3/19/22 at 7:14 pm to the808bass
Yep. I’d rather have Kim. And I can’t believe I’m saying I’d be ok with English. But this?!
Posted on 3/19/22 at 7:15 pm to the808bass
I mean what little actual research I’ve done on Gates does not seem bad at all...Kim has only been head coach one season. Y’all act like Mizzou gonna go land John Calipari...the Murray State coach would have been our homerun, and until we cease to be a dumpster fire, the McMahons of the world will he steered elsewhere by their agents.

I’m sorry but your take is total dog shite.
This was someone hiring a friends husband. It needs to be stopped.

My main issue is Gates coaching description is CM part 2. High energy defense. That style doesn't attract recruits and also makes your offensive minded players to transfer. Why not try a different direction?

And you think Kim English is the answer? Wasn’t aware of personal connections, those tend to go well.

Word on the street is that the contract is a 5 year, 10 Million deal. LOL. Worst run Athletic Department in the country. Good deal for me-won't have to buy season tickets again this year-freebies anytime I want to go.

That seems like an appropriate contract, assuming we have an escape route after year 3.

4 times his current salary-a good deal?

So hiring someone you know is a bad thing? Well Gates' wife is friends with our new AD.
At least Kim has done something here as a player and has ties to boosters for NIL opportunities in recruiting. How much money is DRF forking over out of her salary to help Gates with NIL money?

His current salary is irrelevant. $2M for an SEC school is absolute peanuts...that would easily be last in the conference

I am deflated.
Being a University of Missouri Sports fan has always been this way.
I'm just kind of done. Slightly hopeful for the football program but Drink has some things he needs to prove this season.
The BB program is in shambles and there is no one to blame but the university and its admin. The one program inside the AD that should have been sustainable was gutted and wrecked and any national level equity completely gone.
We often made the drive quite a bit to Columbia to watch the Men's BB team or my sons or relatives used the tickets. Haven't been in a couple of years. Let go of our TSF holds four years ago and haven't regretted it since. It's a shame, our Arena is amazing and one of the best in the country.
There is an aura or vibe from the University that the fans/donors have been the main problem as the AD transitions into a "new era".
Sad times.

already getting charity getting hired for an SEC head coach position. 800k at most, and if he does well he can always demand more.
Society is idiotic with this. Calipari gets Y million, so you can't hire a coach who is getting a premium chance to advance his career for what he is worth?
Supply and demand is what matters, and tomorrow if I were in charge of the hire and put an ad "Wanted: experienced coach for Mizzou, job pays $800k." How many applicants as qualified as Gates would I get? A lot. Because they just need the opportunity to prove themselves.

It’s a complete shot in the dark. There’s almost no reason to think it will work. But it kinda looks like what we’re doing. Maybe not though. I suspect his agent leaked it last night to try to get traction somewhere.

Pardon me for trying to inject just an ounce of optimism in to your D-E-A-D thread. You literally title the thread DEAD and want to lecture about “uneducated” sports fans being the problem. I’m educated enough to know the administration isn’t going to give two shites about your opinion. I actually think people like you are the problem, endlessly pessimistic. I know we’re all a pessimistic bunch, but damn try to see the glass half full sometimes.

How many times was it half full and on its way up?
There are 357 Universities competing in NCAA Division 1 athletics.
91 Have had at least a Final Four appearance.
Missouri is a flagship, land grant institution, located in a state with a population of almost 7 million competing in arguably the best athletic conference in the country. It has a top-tier arena and facilities for basketball.
The donors, fans and alumnus are not the problem. Please just stop parroting that nonsense. The blame for this apathy among the base lies squarely on the university.
