I've thought about it. And I don't feel sorry for him.

He took the coward way.

Real courage would have been doing what the MSNBC panel did last night, and asked for the specifics of what Mizzou did wrong and could do better.

I would much rather have a terrible football team, than to continue to promote racial divides.

Blacks aren't the only race on the receiving end of racism. Blacks aren't the only minority.

By promoting one race instead of preaching equality, this just got worse beyond our wildest dreams.

This is exactly right.

Pinkel did what he did to try to hold his team and program together.

His attempts to explain it (beyond trying to hold his team together) were beyond pathetic.

He should have just explained his reasoning without the spin.

Hold his program together? Failure of epic proportions

Him coming out and telling the boys this wasn't the way and the team would dismiss anyone who skipped practice would have led to a far better outcome than giving these guys legitimacy.

This entire debacle is a lot of his doing

You may have rather had a terrible football team (I wouldn't), but you can certainly understand where the football coach would be concerned only with the football program, right?

Again, no it wouldn't have. Had he blocked the players protest he would have been smeared a racist and his career would have been essentially over.

It may have been the preferred outcome for YOU, but he did what he had to do to try and hold the program together. That's his concern. Not what white, middle age, conservatives think is just.

But this wasn't just about the football team or program.

I can understand only being concerned with the football program...but this has been SO much more than that.

Yeah, his attempt to ride the fence now when it is obvious the big donors are pissed, well it is disgusting.

Which would have taken real bravery and courage. Point out the absurdity that is threatening suicide. Ask to help create better policies, instead of just firing a figure head.

HCGP and the AD had absolutely NO CHOICE.

Look-up the Wyoming Black 14 incident from 1969.

If I understand it correctly by the time it was thrown in his lap 1/3 of his players were already on board.

He tried to talk them out it and suggested alternatives, but the horse was already out of the barn.

So either he gives his (probably unwilling) support to his players or he takes a stand against them and lets the pitchfork media tar and feather him in the court of public opinion.

It was about salvaging the program or striking a match to it and watching it burn.

But I'm sure having a long, drawn out conflict playing out nightly like Ferguson would have been much better.

Negative, if his players have any respect for him and he has any leadership qualities at all he can quell the beast without it even making it out that the players were interested in participating. There were other ways, he just had to show his players that, instead he was a follower rather than a leader and it has degenerated into this.

There have been donors lost, recruits are vocally dismayed about this entire situation. This program is absolutely fricked and this is only just beginning.

To the people saying "I think this is going to help recruiting" lord help you because you have no common sense what so ever.

That's fine man, if you can't see exactly what's in front of you this will be exactly like all other missouri big decisions.

You will be rehashing it years later thinking wow, that was a point that we really choked on. That was the point where we really went downhill.

He did well in the press conference, the first few minutes of the KK interview today weren't too shitty. I'm guessing he really took a dump in the last half though, or a lot of people are too sensitive to this whole thing.

Was it really that bad?

Radio Link

It wasn't too good.

Pretending there's only two options doesn't really advance a dialogue. There were dozens of options.

You totally missed it. I suggested you checkout the WYO Black 14. This incident showed the very possible result of his other choice that you are so happy to represent.

It might help to do your homework, just sayin'. History does tend to repeat itself. This has already "sort of" happened before.

Quickie on the WYO Black 14: In 1969, a VERY successful coach kicked off 14 players for protesting by wearing black arm bands. Backfired. WY football has NEVER recovered.

I'm nowhere near as well versed in this as you and others are.

What alternatives would you have like to seen pursued?

The players had already announced they were striking before even talking to him.

Your timeline is inaccurate

1969 was a time of segregation.

WYO Black 14 was racism by their coach.

That isn't what happened here...nor what I am suggested Pinkel have done.

Opposing a means of protest is not the same as opposing the protest itself.

Also, that is nothing like what happened here, other than the fact that racism is involved.
