Coming from a White Sox fan, I really can't fathom Cardinal fans shitting on Matheny.

Hey Cards fans. Nothing to be ashamed of this season. Y'all had a ton of adversity to overcome all year. Cards are as tough as nails really. I'd put my money on them every time.

To a good season

It'll probably be our turn to lose to a wildcard team tomorrow night.

What is it about the wildcards winning seemingly every year?

If the Cubs and Pirates hadnt kept the pressure on so hard he might of been able to curtail their innings.

They didn't, so he couldn't afford to really.

I just hope CMart comes back healthy next year. He probably would not have made a difference this year though, we ran into a buzz saw again.

The Cubs are on a roll, I hope for their sake it doesn't stop next week. Shitting the bed in the NLCS hurts way worse than the NLDS.

There is something to be said for four straight years of losing 3 in a row to lose a series. Its a thing for Matheny apparently. Feeling a little heat wouldn't be a bad thing.

Momentum. Plus they pick up more momentum after the wildcard game win also.

Royals are a perfect example last season. Barely squeaked in to a wildcard spot, won that game in dramatic fashion and then went on a terror through the ALDS and ALCS and then took a good Giants team to the last out of game 7 of the WS.

Who were also WCs.

The momentum thing is huge.

Yep, momentum is huge. I think they treat every playoff game as if it was their last.

The one thing you Cards fans can look forward to is you guys will probably be back in it again next season or damn close.

For teams like KC, it's always a big question mark surrounded by contracts ending and the future never seems certain because of it. They could easily skip right back into a long playoff drought. They just won't spend the money like other clubs.

The Cubs spend money. I'm not sure about the Cards. I think they are more apt to spend than say KC, but I know the Cards rely on their farm system pretty heavy also. But I don't know if they will or would outspend the Cubs. Maybe maybe not. I think the Cards and KC get more for their money though. Cards make consistent playoff appearances and KC made it to the promised land spending very little but will probably be short lived.

well when you have the third best record in the mlb and you lose your division by 3 games with the first and second best teams in front of you, I don't really think ending up in the wildcard means shite in this situation. jmho.

GO CUBS GO!

There is always someone bitching about the manager regardless of what happens. It was the same way with LaRussa until 2011.

Not even going to bother on STL Today.Same idiotic suicidal fans who know more than the manager who played for a dozen years and who has made the playoffs every year at the helm.

Meh...you could kind of see this coming for a long time. This team had that "great regular season, short postseason" look to them. Tons of very solid but not spectacular players will give you lots of regular season wins. Plus, the cubbies were only 3 games out and 9 years out of 10 would have won the division anyway.

Shannon and Rooney called it in the 9th. The Cardinals, especially their pitchers, looked tired. All those injuries, especially to the starting pitching that caused tons of innings on the bullpen, finally caught up with them.

Personally I think Mo could have done more at the trade deadline. He knew we were short in bullpen at that time, he knew we had issues at 1B, he knew we needed more arms to rest Wacha/Martinez.

Yet none of his moves alleviated this. His big bat was Moss, , and he didn't get a SP.

Same story the last couple years, really really pathetic trade deadline moves.

I'm not really all that pissed. I'm disappointed, but not upset. We had a really good season considering all the setbacks we experienced with injuries to some of our best players.

It's shocking that we won our division and 100 games.

The Cubs were the better team at the end of the season. They were playing their best and we were starting to play our worst. Injuries finally caught up to us.

I'm excited about next year when we return Gritchuk, Piscotty, Carpenter, Wong, Waino, and hopefully a healthy Martinez and Jaime Garcia (although I'm not sure he'll ever recover from his boneheaded play in game 2).

Yeah, it sucks. But it isn't the end of the world. The Cards are in the playoffs every year. Sometime soon we'll be back in the World Series like we are averaging about once every 5 years.

The Cubs are lucky to make the playoffs and they last won a World Series when Archduke Ferdinand was still walking the Earth. Mankind was just learning how to fly when the Cubs last won the World Series.

We need to put things into perspective.

As much as I wanna blame Matheny, and have plenty of reasons to do so, I'll blame the batting with RISP.

Honestly, the injuries just caught up with us. I'm really excited about the team next year as well. Piscotty is going to develop into a damn good Cardinal. He performed well during his stint this year, but I think next year he puts up some serious stats! I'm curious to see what the Cards offer Heyward. More likely than not, he's gone.
