I heard about a catcher in the Cardinals farm system who is supposed to be the next Yadi. Anyone know who I'm talking about. I'm not a fan of Cruz...

Probably Carson Kelly. Has a ton of upside. Great arm and really quick behind the plate. Still a work in progress, because he is a converted catcher. With that being said, Cardinals think he has a future.

I haven't heard anything like that.

We have Kelly who is a converted 3b/P in rookie ball and Ohlman at AA Springfield. Those two appear to have the highest upside at C in the organization at this point. I dont think any of those two projects out at anywhere near Yadi though. But like all things who knows, they can come out of nowhere and develop.

I'm not saying they will certainly be the next Yadi, I've just heard some really good things. I bet they could come in and at least be as good as Cruz.

Shannon and Rooney called it in the 9th. The Cardinals, especially their pitchers, looked tired. All those injuries, especially to the starting pitching that caused tons of innings on the bullpen, finally caught up with them.

BOOM! Add to that Yadi's hand injury at the wrong time.

Agree, Adams is gone.

We will either sign heyward or sign a big time pitcher. Remember the cards have tons of extra spending money, probably the most ever.

This team wasn't going to go the distance.

There were holes, especially after the injuries.

There was a fundamental flaw to their approach at the plate as well.

You can't win in Oct, especially if you don't hit 7 home runs a game, if you can't move runners over.

Id like to see them resign Heyward, and go after a power bat. One more arm would be nice as well. The fact that they haven't made any real moves besides the Heyward deal is starting to show.

Matheny has got to figure out how to stop overusing his pitchers in the regular season. Everyone of them looked gassed this series, escpcially Seigrist.

Maybe more help from the farm during the season. Gonzales would have been a nice option down the stretch.

I think we're still one year out from the Alex Reyes show, but having him in some capacity would be nice next year too. Maybe out of the pen late in the season.

100 wins, with smoke and mirrors, I think we all knew how this would pan out in the end.

I think we see Reyes in the September call-ups next season.

That goes on Mozeliak not Matheny. Mo did very little to help out our young starters. He went out and got no one. Instead of getting someone to eat up innings he did squat.

This isn't just a Cardinals issue. Remember when the Nats shut down Strasburg? They just need to figure out the right formula for how to pitch these young guys.

Martinez and Wacha both pitch far too many innings this year.

The following guys are on my, "done with" list:

Bourjos
Jay
Kozma
Choate
Lynn
Moss
Reynolds

Good list, but I added Adams to that list. I can't stand Adams. He needs to go as much as anyone.

I still don't understand why they sent CMart to the AFL last fall.

His workload was increased by 150% this season. Not a good formula for a young arm.

Next year will be better as far as handling the workload for these guys. It's the curse of having young pitching. I just hope CMart comes back 100%.

I agree with your list, except for Reynolds. He's not a bad guy off the bench, he was exposed this season with the injuries.

If Jay, Choate, Kozma, and Bourjos are on this roster it means Mo didn't get the pieces he needed to get this offseason.

I think they keep Moss around, especially if they dump Adams, but mostly because of dumb pride. That was such a shitty trade that they can't call a spade a spade and dump him yet. They're gonna have to string it out and annoy us.

I don't really like Adams per se, but I would prefer him over Moss/Reynolds. I rather see Piscotty/Adams at 1B.

Holliday, Grichuk, Pham, Heyward, Piscotty in the OF

Garcia is an ok guy for utility IF.

Reynolds can fill the 1B/3B RH bench bat.

Cruz isn't good enough to play 50-60 games at catcher, which might be necessary.

Leaves what, 1 bench spot? Should be another utility guy who can give Peralta a break.

Moss,Reynolds and Piscotty all can play multiple positions.

Not saying that Moss and or Reynolds is "better" but if Adams isnt a power hitting everyday 1B then his value on the roster is low IMO.

We are getting older and we had injuries. I have never been a big fan of the "Atlanta Braves" drafting. First round picks are usually pitchers. The Braves only won one WS with that mentality. And we do not need to be copying from the Braves.

I wish baseball experts would realize that good pitching can get out good hitters and good hitters can hit good pitching.

We need some more pop in the bats in the infield. The outfield looks good.

We will be back.

Cubs just hit another home run while I was typing this.

Here's the break down, I stole this from Goold

quote:

FREE AGENTS (6): Matt Belisle, RHP; Jason Heyward, OF; Randy Choate, LHP; Mark Reynolds, 1B; Carlos Villanueva, RHP; John Lackey, RHP.

All gone except Heyward and maybe Reynolds. Lackey will cost too much.

quote:

LONGTERM DEALS (8): The following players are signed for 2016: Adam Wainwright, RHP, for $19.5 million (signed through 2018). … Matt Holliday, OF, for $17.0 million (signed through 2016, option 2017) …. Jhonny Peralta, SS, for $12.5 million (signed through 2017) … Yadier Molina, C, for $14.0 million (signed through 2017, option 2018) … Lance Lynn, RHP, for $7.5 million (signed through 2017) … Jon Jay, OF, for $6.225 million (signed through 2016) … Matt Carpenter, 3B, for $6.25 million (signed through 2019, option for 2020) … Jordan Walden, RHP, for $3.5 million (signed through 2016, option for 2017).

Lynn and Jay need to be traded and with their salaries not being very high they should be able to get something for them, young infield talent?

quote:

OPTIONS (2): Jonathan Broxton, RHP, for $9 million ($1 million buyout). … Jaime Garcia, LHP, for $11.5 million ($500,000 buyout; first of two options).

Decline decline decline decline

quote:

ARBITRATION ELIGIBLE (6): Steve Cishek, RHP, third time coming off $6.65 million … Brandon Moss, OF, third time coming off $6.5 million … Peter Bourjos, OF, third time coming off $1.65 million … Tony Cruz, C, second time coming off $775,000 … Trevor Rosenthal, RHP, first time coming off $535,000 … Matt Adams, 1B, first time coming off $534,000.

Bourjos gone, Cishek gone, Moss gone, Cruz gone, Adams ???, Rosie big extension.

quote:

ZERO TO THREES* (everybody else): Seth Maness, RHP; Pete Kozma, SS; Carlos Martinez, RHP; Michael Wacha, RHP; Kolten Wong, 2B; Kevin Siegrist, LHP; Randal Grichuk, OF; Dean Anna, INF; Tyler Lyons, LHP; Tim Cooney, LHP; Ed Easley, C; Greg Garcia, SS; Marco Gonzales, LHP; Mitch Harris, RHP; Michael Ohlman, C; Tommy Pham, OF; Stephen Piscotty, 1B/OF; Miguel Socolovich, RHP; Travis Tartamella, C; Sam Tuivailala, RHP; and Cody Stanley, C.

Lot of young AAAA pitchers there.

Please.

The Cubs couldn't win 100 games with their full lineup.

Let's remove Arrieta for 95% of the season.

Your starting 1B Rizzo. Your starting LF. Your 8th inning guy, Strop. Your 7th inning guy. Your #2 starter. Your Catcher for the playoffs. Your starting CF. Let's also say your backup CF misses 2 months with an elbow problem(ok Soler missed a bit, we'll say this one is even).

Anyone who doesn't think injuries were pretty severe for the Cardinals this year is in denial.
