Why would GM sign a recruit to WSU yesterday if he were coming to Mizzou? That's a crappy thing to do if he is coming.

Mizzou could be a top 10 program in the right hands. GM seems to be the guy to make it happen. Too bad he's not up for the challenge.

Howland? More FH like baggage. KA - too old.
Shaka Smart? Aiming to high? I don't understand that train of thought.

MA has to ring the bell on this one. This is a huge hire!

LINK: GM signs recruit

Nice picture...looks like a nice kid. If this was scheduled before Mizzou situation (which it most likely was) I doubt any coach would back down from signing the young man for their current program. I also heard this player had played at Juco under a current WSU assistant coach. So that is probably the reason he was invited to WSU.

The big question is if GM promised the kid he would be coaching him at WSU. I have seen some comments suggesting the kid has tweeted such. If true, then GM is probably not coming to Mizzou.

But, at this point nothing would surprise me. Many other signals, lead me to believe GM is seriously thinking about the Mizzou HC position.

Unique, desperate, take your pick. We need a big name hire that can get the program back on it's feet and the fans excited again.

I love Kim and what he has done in his coaching career, but we are talking D2 here. Only a small portion of the fan base would be excited about this hire. Everyone would be if he came out of the door winning, sustained it with good recruits and kept winning. People say he is the low risk candidate, I say he is the high risk candidate because there is a good chance he would fall on his face at Mizzou and we are back to square one in a worse position than we are now.

I could be totally wrong on Marshall, but my gut tells me he would leave Mizzou for a better opportunity down the road. I'm sure he would leave us in good shape, but would be back to a coaching search in another 4 to 5 years.

Howland to me is the homerun hire as far as exciting the fanbase, being a premium coach who can recruit, plays tough defense, a history of rebuilding programs, and at his age, could see him wanting to build something special and retire in 8 to 10 years. I think he is every bit as good as Marshall as a coach, if not better. That's why I hope it's Howland, but still would be excited if Marshall was hired, just don't see it happening.

So many rumours are flying around because the search has been tight lipped, some crazy and interesting scenarios are out there. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we had another "coming out of left field" hire, let's just hope it's a good one, or after this much time has passed, hired a search firm, just to be deflated with an Anderson hire wouldn't surprised me. By the way, one of the rumours is Howland is the guy, Alden didn't like the thought of Howland at first, but the search firm came back after investigating and said Howland was good to go.

I certainly would be thrilled with Howland, as well as Marshall. Marshall may be the hot name, but I agree that Howland also has the right stuff!

I'm trying to sift through all the evidence here to see if I can figure out who our next coach will be, and all signs are pointing to Kim Anderson.

Marshall - just had a recruit sign an LOI at WSU. Also, I maintain that word would have got out by now through his kids and/or their friends. Surely he would have told his kids by now.

Howland - if it's Howland, why the need for such secrecy? He doesn't have a current job or team to worry about. There is no reason to keep such a tight lid on it if it were him.

Some Haith type hire - Alden doesn't have the stones to do this again. There is no way this happens.

Which leaves me with two choices:

Anderson - just down the road and would probably make a lot of the old timers with deep pockets pretty happy. This is the safe hire for him.

Another decent coach we're not thinking of - possible, but not very likely in my opinion. And who could it possibly be anyways? We know it's not Floyd or some others that were mentioned early on.

I think it's Anderson.

There's as much argument against Anderson as for. More, IMO.

There's no reason to keep that hire under cloak and dagger. You're actually foolish to do so. There's no reason for Anderson to say he hasn't been offered the job on Friday when he didn't have to give a statement at all.

Furthermore, if Anderson goes 15-15 next year, Alden's seat gets really hot. Norm didn't fill seats in Hearnes because of his "Midwest values." He filled seats because he won a lot. That stuff is really overdone.

I wonder if Mizzou had Marshall targeted for next year, Haith kind of felt the vibe, and bolted a year before Mizzou wanted to get rid of him.

If this is 11 months in the future Marshall is without a doubt Mizzou's coach.

Timing could be the thing that screws us here.

So if they hire Anderson and season flames, would you put it past Alden to go after Marshall next year?

If part of hiring Anderson was to appease curators etc at Mizzou then dumping him on his butt with nowhere to go after a year would certainly be frowned upon.

That would not surprise me. But I have the feeling it is either Marshall now or never.

Also, did we hear anything new from Marshall last night? Someone was saying he was going to do an interview, but from what I understand he has yet to directly address the Mizzou job.

This was all I've seen regarding Marshall as of late

Neal Jones ?@NealJoneskctv5 · 59m
A media source in Wichita tells me that they "believe" that "Gregg Marshall has been contacted indirectly about the Missouri coaching job."

I actually didn't get to watch it.

I bonfired last night, people I was with aren't really into the sports.

Sounds devastating, though.

I hope the Blues can end up winning this thing, because it will go down as maybe the best opening round series ever.

The way this thing has gone it deserves to go 7, and I'd bet on the Blues at home in a game 7.

Regarding the BOC meeting on Monday and the thought that whomever is taking the job must already be known.

Everyone seems to be forgetting the backlash for the hiring of Haith though, and rightfully so.

People were clamoring and were unsure if the BOC would even approve his contract.

Do you not believe Alden took heat for that behind the scenes?

He could as others have pointed out have his list of candidates ranked and taking them to the BOC for final approval.

He could also very well have a deal worked out with Marshall, but need additional funding approved in order to finalize that. How come through all this not a word has come out from Marshall or his camp denying it? Seems like it would be a pretty simple step to reassure everyone. He's had a podium to do that several times.

The thought that Gabe keeps posting I am being told by sources that are 99 percent sure it's not going to be Marshall. Well as Gabe has admitted before he is having trouble getting any information because everyone is so tight lipped, how exactly is he able to rule out candidates then? If it's Alden communicating with a select group of people in Marshall's camp no one else would need to know. If Alden can't get the money Marshall want's there is no reason to throw WSU into an uproar when he's going to be there for however much longer.

Exactly, there is no reason to keep the Anderson hire a secret. Unless of course, Alden has no balls and just doesn't want it to be known yet. shite, that's a logical scenario in it's self.

Anderson would be such a deflating hire, but could easily see Alden doing this to appease a certain portion of the fanbase.

Marshall, Howland, or bust.
