The slow starts have been a problem, that we would not want to become a habit. Won't go well when we play better teams. Hope we see a different pattern at Atlantis.

You're up late...must be your turn to feed the baby.

Nah night shift. The baby is still several months off. I work Air Force, job is Medical Air Evacuation throughout the Pacific so we have weekend duty an 24/7 ops aka lots of boring nights on the rant.

Of course, you just told us you were expecting. Just like I have advanced forward to basketball, I upped your due date.

I'm old fashioned, and like surprises, so long as it's not a litter!

And boring, slow nights on your job is a GOOD THING.

Haha always say that too. Work is definitely a bad thing for me.

I am here solo most nights, this has got to be the creepiest building in the history of the world though. It's the Pacific AF HQ building on Hickam base. Huge old old building. It was a barracks in WWII and was hit when the japanese bombed Pearl. There are still bullet holes on the outside of the building an all that. Makes staying here overnight super creepy though.

But at least you're in Hawaii, nice tour of duty.

Absolutely, wife is military as well so the money is out of this world. We both get an additional 600 Cost of living allowance for being stationed here tax free as well as 1800 each monthly housing allowance tax free. Plus our base pay and meal rations. We want to stay here as long as possible simply for the money. As a 26 y/o being able to make just under 130k for a household that's just amazing. Military has done alot for us.

Thanks for making me dislike our military even more than I already did. That is a joke no matter how you cut it. It's actually sickening the way you talk about the money is out of this world and wanting to stay there as long as possible.

(insert comment that I'm not a patriot or grateful for the sacrifices of our soldiers)

Thought military was open to everyone?

Wife is on a cutter has to go out Mon-Saturday every other week no coming home just out to sea patrolling waiting for any cases. She is also the cook so when they are in she spends her sunday grocery shopping for 14 people for a week which isn't exactly quick. When they are in port someone has to be on the ship constantly so every 10 days or so she has to stay the night (a 24 hour period called duty watch) there anyways. We spend our Holidays when everyone else is with family at work because of both of our jobs. This will be the second Christmas in a row she is patrolling since President Obama enjoys his Hawaiian vacation. I will be here Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Christmas eve. Played the Iraq and Afghanistan game already. Spent over 20 percent of my 5 years in in some bullshite foreign country which isnt much compared to alot others but still notable. This didn't even touch on the actual work we do, bullshite we put up with, or the 24/7 being on call to come in.

I'd say complete joke... probably not.

Yeah. He's done his work here but it's time to move on. His blind loyalty to his poor coordinators was his downfall. Out with pinks

Why is that sickening? Extending in an option available to military members. Find someone who wants to take a cut in pay for moving away from Hawaii. Please.

You would give the ole 'not with my family on the holidays bit'.

My anger shouldn't be directed at you personally... The military as a whole is out of control. The salaries, the mentality of its members, and the money being transacted to private companies for equipment. It's all a big joke.

The complex that is built by this is unbreakable. Huge corporations won't put an end to it, the people getting overpaid won't put an end to it, it's a perfect set up.

I wonder what the unemployment rate would be if we had a decently peaceful world? War and danger must be on the brink for our GDP to be healthy, think about that for a second.

You really wouldn't understand why I think that's sickening, you and I are on the opposite end of the spectrum. I have a totally different set of values and principles... explaining to you why your mindset is sickening would be a waste.

I'll drop this bit, thanks for all you do for our country.

We are not on different end of the spectrums on this at all.

I have worked finance in the military and been absolutely disgusted myself.

Let me explain something to you, here's how the military budget works. They allocate a certain amount of funding to a squadron every fiscal year. If you need more you ask for more and it's normally granted. However if you don't use all of the funding for that year the next year they allocate you a lower amount. Because of this squadron commanders squabble to spend all of their budget yearly just to not lose any the next year.

At the end of every year there is a huge spending spree where we actually get on the shops in order to put in their purchase requests to get the money spent. We had a commander spend nearly a million dollars for new furniture for our facilities that we obviously didn't need. I vehemently oppose this, but it's the system setup. It's obviously incompetent and wasteful, and yet it's what we have. I am disgusted by federal spending in general it's a complete joke. Let's talk about the prices, I had ordered supplies and was billed 24 dollars for a box of black sharpie markers, which I told them to return I will never sign a document saying I authorized that much to be spent on a 4 dollar item max. Rather then hate the individual worker or be pissed at someone like me who actually does go out and works/leaves family/and as cliche as it is risks their life blame the people who can control this.

You are also absolutely right, unfortunately humans are completely fricking crazy for the most part and thus they have made war and the military a necessity.

Another note, I was forced to spend 2500 the other day on some toner cartridges for our incredibly overpriced printer. Saddest part about this? I actually saved an additional 800 dollars off of the place I was told to purchase them at.

Flight crews having "deployments" to Germany making like 180 bucks per day per diem. Having travel vouchers pay out for over 25,000 for 4 months (this is completely in addition to their basic pay which would also have increased while "deployed" living in Germany.

You get no argument from me the reason for our debt is this unbalanced spending. If we could reign this all in that'd begin to solve the national debt by itsself.

I think the offense needs a bit of retooling. I think if Mizzou was still in the Big 12 I think the same thing would have happened.

I think it's time for a new OC.

Or just do like they do here in China. Shut off the internet and take the whole coaching staff in for questioning...lol

Thanks for sharing those stories.. glad you're disgusted with it as well. That example of the guy spending a million dollars on furniture just made me throw up in my mouth (not really, but wow.. that is incredible). How powerful it would be if something like that would make the news instead of the same drivel they shove down our throats everyday.

And I'm bipolar. I say things in anger and then I feel bad later. You're about the 4th MU fan I've apologized to, sorry for lashing out.

You're more than entitled to enjoy the fruits of your situation and you pay for them in ways I wouldn't like to think about. The one thing I'll say is this compartmentalization of things makes it impossible to fix the problem. As long as everyone is getting theirs, they won't speak up. So as long as you're getting all of this housing and food allowance with the handsome pay check and promise of money and health care for life; you're not going to risk your job by speaking up. I just wish we as people would stop thinking of ourselves for once so we can make improvements as a whole.

About the debt, I think fixing the wild spending would be great, but only part of the solution. As long as we keep being loaned the paper we print for ourselves from the central bank, we'll always be in debt.

You're a good man for explaining your position on this and not coming back with comments about how unpatriotic I am. Good for you.

Say this alot too.

We had a town hall format meeting with the joint chiefs of staff a couple months back. Really wanted to ask him something, wasn't given the opportunity though.

This was just after some army intelligence guy was caught for leaking information, and the marines had been brought to lie for peeing on dead taliban soldiers.

Wanted to ask how the media effects his job and what he does. Obviously these actions are not representative of the majority, but yet when something like this happens it obviously reflects all of us.

One story that comes to mind was in Afghanistan, there were children injured by an IED placed by Taliban. The children were left outside the gate of a small dutch base because they were going to die otherwise without medical treatment. This is where we took them in and saved their lives. This is something that would never make the news, but is truly a story of something we as Americans should be proud of and happens much more often then the negative things we see daily.
