What about Brent Venables as new HC? It would be his first HC job so he may not show up on the radar for the big schools.

He's been a mentioned commodity since we hired Pinkel. Not sure he wants to be anything other than the best DC in college football.

If he does, we won't get him. He's Kirby Smart all over again. He'll choose a blue blood like Tennessee or A&M.

You don't think the no HC experience keeps the bluebloods away?

Kirby Smart was DC for Saban at Bama. He's now HC at UGA

A&M is not a blueblood

Well then, KSU could grab him when old man Snyder retires.

Either way, he's got options, and he can just stay put. Sure, make a play to get him. He'd be a great choice. I'm just saying it's going to be a tough sell to join us.

IMO, we need instant energy with a known name. I think our best shot is with someone who wants another shot at the big time, or a first time shot at SEC.

Les Miles
Bobby Petrino
Mike Leach
Charlie Strong

I think Sterk will also think in terms of getting fans to show up at games. That means guys like Frank Wilson isn't going to have an instant impact on sales. I don't see him putting any emphasis on Mid-majors.

Fine you win. Do you think no HC experience will keep the bluebloods(UT & LSU) and non blueblood A&M away?

Never.

It's always either promote or hire a coach that wants to be HC. Or hire somebody elses HC.

They will always have the edge in money and history to get the best choices.

OK here's another "out of the box name" Steve Sakisian?

I would say the top 4 names on the list should be Frost, Wilson, Morris and Brown.

I get that, I'm just thinking out of the box in case the others get snatched up quickly.

I'M DUMB

Don't see how we could lure him here. He has Washington doing very well in the PAC year in and year out. Team is #6 in the nation, and don't think it's possible to not like the Huskies. Not sure what he'd leave his current situation for, doubt it's Mizzou though.

Odom isn't getting fired after this season unless there is some major controversy. I hate to say it, but he will be here next year at the least.

Sark is the OC for the Atlanta Falcons.
He hasn’t been at Washington for a few years.

And odds are you won't get them or you don't really want them. 5 years ago Miles is someone you take a strong look at. Now he's a bit long in the tooth to bring in.

Petrino has his issues shall we say. Charlie Strong did not set the world on fire at Texas. Mike Leach is a hot pick right now, but he really hasn't had a tremendous amount of success and if he wants to leave Washington State he'll probably have better suitors.

As much as this sucks... you probably need to find a good young coach. There is no one out there that will come in and lead you to a 15-0 record and have all the pundits declare you to be the greatest team of all time in one season.

Norvell at Memphis needs some seasoning. The gent at Troy probably does as well. Still... those are the sort of guys you should be looking at right now only once they are a bit further along in their coaching careers.

Hell you might want to give one of those two guys a serious look even if they need some OJT. Until Saban crawls off and dies none of us are going to win the SEC barring a miracle run. A good young HC, with enough experience that he can find his arse with both hands and road map is a solid investment in the future right now.

As long as we're throwing out names, here's one.

There's more to him than you'd think. I'll kick in the first 20-bucks for his salary.

Introducing: The new Mizzou Coach!!
