Fromm has not been good under pressure

He takes sacks very often under pressure
LINK
He becomes inaccurate when he has to move his feet

This is absolutely our best chance to hold up at least somewhat on defense. If we aren't getting pressure with the front 4 early then we must start bringing extra rushers. That has the chance to really disrupt their offense.
What we can't do is sit back and let them pick us apart.

And Mizzou has not been good at getting pressure. It’s a bad combination for us.

We've been about average pressuring the QB.
Like I said, we have to go after this guy.

Which DE do you see winning this weekend is the question. So far they have created pressure on 10% of the pass attempts.
I hope they have spent the week looking at tape and worked on counters in their rush technique.

If Barry is this magical D guru he’s claimed to be, you’d think he’d been getting really creative in disguising blitzes. Will he go with the frosh if the upperclassman do squat?
Anyway. Fromm is mediocre.

I don't see any. Turner has been able to get in the backfield a bit.
We need to bring some heat. Can't just sit back and expect our guys to cover. Get this kid of his spot and he isn't very good.

Which upperclassman? Turner and Williams are both sophomores. And neither really played that much last season as freshmen. It doesn’t matter how good of an X and O coach if you don’t have players that can win 1 on 1.

That's why they are going to have to scheme themselves out of 1 on 1. They'll also have a true freshman starting at LT. Twists, stunts, well disguised blitz packages. Whatever we have, throw it at them because if we can get to Fromm we can at least limit them on offense a bit and give ourselves a chance.

I would show double A gap with the LBs and have the dline split wider. Force UGA to keep the RB/TE in to account for the 6 potential pass rushers. You can drop who ever you want into coverage and even bring the safety off the edge but if they line up with the LBs 5 yds off the ball it will have poor results.

average probably isn't good enough to beat UGA, I hope I'm wrong

You're not wrong, but there are ways to aid an average pass rush which we must employ.
The hounds of hell must be unleashed in this game.

Walters sent 27 blitzers against Purdue. None really worked effectively.
Posted on 9/20/18 at 8:02 pm to JesusQuintana
The key is get up on them early so they feel compelled to abandon the run and pass.

I don’t know about that. Purdue called 10 run plays and still ended with almost 600 yards and 37 points. The defense just has to play better. There were just way too many blown coverages especially by the linebackers and safteys.

So you're gameplan would be to come out with a bunch of white flags? What?
We need to pressure the QB. If the blitz packages aren't working, then install new ones. This is how we give ourselves a shot.

I agree with JQ. Our DB’s can’t cover their WR’s.
We will give up a lot of points loading the box, but we will give up a lot of points if we don’t.
If we can’t get them off the field and let them slow down the game our D will be to tired by the 2nd half.
The best thing might be a shoot out and hope for turnovers.
Load the box, blitz, and slow down their run game. Make Fromm pass a lot and hope for a few mistakes.

I think we can out scheme them. HCBO needs to bring everything along with the kitchen sink. Show different packages, get real weird with it.
He also needs to channel his inner pirate and pretty much go for it on every 4th down. Get a turnover here and there with this? We win by 1-2 TDs.

THe issue is when we blitzed against purdue, especially 2 blitzers, we got smoked down field. We never got there. Our Pass D was best when we rushed 3 and dropped 8.
Blitzing and not getting there is suicide.

Rushing 3 and dropping 8 Fromm will pick us apart. The D will be gassed because we don’t go 2 to 3 deep at most positions. That will allow UGA to slow down the game and keep our offense off the field.
Even if we let them score it will allow our offense the opportunity to score. They probably won’t get tired on D because they go 3 deep at every position. By loading the box almost every down maybe we tire out their OL.
I believe Fromm will get tired. He hasn’t had to play a full game. Then they will go to their ground game and by loading up the line it will help us stop the run.
I’m not a defensive expert or even know what kind of defense to run. It is just an observation about how we don’t have the secondary to stop the pass. If we get to him he may hurry passes. The biggest problem with my theory is short passes to the RB, TE, and short slant routes to the WR’s.

Do what you want but blitzing isn't going to work unless things change significantly.
The blitzes have been ineffective in all 3 previous games. Odds are they won't work against UGA so what do you do then?
