I agree with Lucas, we need to stop attacking players. They are kids. Coaches are fair game.

quote:

Hey y'all, former Mizzou Defensive Tackle Lucas Vincent here. And after that grueling loss and I have somethings I want to get off my chest and it's not about Coach Odom, Drew Lock or the even the play calling, my quarl is with you the "fans". As a collective whole you all SUCK!! Outside of a few people you guys don't know how to be supportive at all! And this isn't anything new, it's been like this. I remember having a conversation on the sidelines during a game (mind you this is when we won the East back to back) in The Zou that went along the lines of "forget these fans they don't care about us". I remember getting on the bus after a tough game on the road and one of my team mates pull up their Twitter and you adults are just going in on a 20 year old kid telling him how much he sucks and he should never play football again. Like seriously what is wrong with you people? You wonder why Drew Lock has been playing bad? Well how many of you have been on social media cursing him? He sees them, every single one of them even if he doesn't acknowledge that he does and if you think he doesn't you're dead wrong. You guys were cursing us winning 10 games a season so I can't imagine what the kids on the teams after mine have had to endure. So if you want The Tigers to be successful please actually SUPPORT them through the good AND the bad. Because the negative vibe y'all are giving off is a killer to this program.

A little soul searching might be needed. We are 4-4 not 8-8. If we are 4-8 at the end, then we get to criticize a new coach next year.

If you don't want to be criticized, don't step over the chalk.

Lock's criticism is deserved, regardless of how slim the margin is. Realistically, if he completes two more passes in each game vs SC and UK, they don't have enough time to drive back down the field. He didn't and they lost. He's the QB. It comes with the territory.

He’s a kid. Who called for the pass on 3and 2, Dooley. Who called to try to run out the clock at the beginning of the second half by playing conservatively; Dooley and Odom.

Scream about the coaches all you want. But if you continue to attack the players you are like the a-hole that screams at kids soccer games.

I agree that too many fans feel empowered to be idiots. But this isn’t the problem with the program.

He’s not a kid. He’s a college senior.

No, he is not. I have trained 18 year old to handle situations far more arduous than will ever be found on a fricking FB field. They can handle it and he should be able to handle some shite on social media, especially when he plans on getting paid millions of dollars to do that exact job.

quote:

Who called for the pass on 3and 2,

We discussed this on another thread but it's pitch and catch. He will be expected to make that exact throw in the NFL with a much smaller window. He blew it by holding onto the ball to long and throwing it to the wrong side of the WR.

I will continue to critique as I see fit. If any player has enough time to come on this site and get butt hurt because I think their play is technically unsound, I would suggest that they spend more time working on where to throw the ball to a slot on a 7 yd curl vs a LB making a hook drop under Cover 3.

I agree with Vincent to an extent, but he has to take into affect that when a kid is playing well he loves the praise and compliments and he(the kid) doesn't complain about that. If they love the praise they better learn how to take the criticism, because that's REAL life.

Example...when Lock throws a td he does this Cam Newton type thing. When he fumbles the ball, throws a silly pick or misses a open receiver he looks like his world just ended.(Just using him as an example and not just singling him out)

This happens in every sport at every University. If he is making this a Mizzou thing he's an idiot.

Also get off social media, you won't see shite.

I ascertain from your NavyNuke that you have done some great things and trained great men and women for our country. Thanks for that, if so.

That said, you’re talking about apples and oranges. 75% or more College football players come from HS programs where they are worshipped. Their egos are out of whack these days. That’s why we have these stupid hat ceremonies. The folks you worked with were selfless.

Kelly Bryant was rumored to not like arky because the fans booed their team during a winning game. He wants to be worshipped wherever he goes. So do the Missouri recruits on the sideline and on social media.

I know its bullshite, but it is the way it is on all power 5 teams for years now.

I used to be much more along the lines of Vincent's thoughts. Not so much anymore.

First, I do draw a major distinction between posting on a message board and communicating directly to that player via twitter or other social media. I, personally, never communicate to any player (or recruit) directly on social media. Conversely...it is the player that puts his social media out there to the public and at times begs for more followers. So to an extent, even direct contact is on the player.

Personally, I have fallen away from Vincent's thought that criticism shouldn't be voiced because they are kids. They are young adults. As soon as they are old enough to want all the cameras on them picking a hat or whatever other clever reveal they have, then they get everything that comes with being in the public eye.

Again, there is a difference between critiquing a player on a message board and tweeting to them "You are a fricking disgrace to the black and gold!!! I hope you break your leg and never play again!!!' The former, I will keep doing. The latter I don't support at all. Lots of shades of gray in between.

Now that I gave my thoughts about the issue, I have 2 words for Vincent now that he is an adult:

frick you!!!

You felt that way...you should have left. A majority of the very people he says suck lived through the 80's and 90's and frankly should have stopped supporting the program decades ago but they didn't. To say they are the ones that suck is a pile of crap.

I get wanting to make a point about what is said on twitter to a player but he went beyond that and for that I say frick you.

One of my favorite Post's of yours NN, Have to say on this one, your points were righteously correct. Now, just need you to take it a step further....and...{you know me a bit so assume you have an idea where I would take it.

On another note, Vincent's rant is just one big POS (not "point of sale")

You want to feel bad for kids. Feel bad for the 18 - 22 year old who dies in Afghanistan to no fanfare. If he looked in the stands and said "frick these fans" then I wish he had the balls to tell us, because it's the fans good and bad who pay the freight.

Instead of blaming fans for social media, blame your mom, dad and coach for not preparing you for the public retribution that goes hand in hand with the public love. Bama fan will kiss your arse, all you have to do is be skilled enough to play for them, oh yeah, You Weren't!

Men are shaped by how we deal with adversity. If Twitter is causing you distress, turn Twitter off! If you want praise, earn it through improved play. If all else fails, serve your country and join men and women who serve unselfishly and don't crumble at the whims of social media.

Gotta say. I'm about done with TJ too. I'd prefer to remember him for his play. Not the most talented player out there but always thought he played hard.

Now (and I guess somewhat understandably) he is just a shill for the program. I guess it balances out Miklasz and Gordo in a way. Just as they are predictable in criticizing even if kudos are due, TJ is predictable in giving kudos when criticism is due.

I don't like to see people attack players, especially college kids.

Having said that, kids have to be smarter. They seem to have no understanding of what "the vocal minority" means. You don't have a right to be not offended and you cannot force people to say nice things or not say bad things. You choose to be offended over what someone else says.

Sports is a bigtime world. If you can't deal with all the different types of folks it attracts, don't play.

Some player (might have been in the pros), turns off their social media during the season. Probably the smartest thing a player can do. Ya want to do it, do it in the off season when being distracted isn't as bad.
