I'm very happy about playing WVU this season. I think they are in the same general area as Mizzou when it comes to being a successful program. It's just a very interesting matchup IMO.

But I'm looking at these future opponents, and I can't help but shake my head. Here's who we've got:

2017:
vs. Missouri State
vs. Purdue
vs. Idaho
at UConn

2018:
vs. UT Martin
vs. Wyoming
at Purdue
vs. Memphis

2019:
at Wyoming
vs. West Virginia
vs. SEMO

2020:
vs. Central Arkansas
vs. Eastern Michigan
at BYU

2021:
vs. North Texas

2022:
at Middle Tennessee

2023:
vs. Middle Tennessee
vs. Memphis

If we want to be taken seriously as a program, we need to schedule better. I don't expect us to play Notre Dame, USC, or anyone like that. But why can't we play anybody that might give us a 50/50 toss up?

WHY TF ARE WE PLAYING AT MID MAJOR STADIUMS?? I am not watching anymore ESPN3 where we have to suffer through the monotony of hearing that Charles Harris played basketball 30 times! We're literally setting up future trap games because our players probably aren't going to be very motivated to play in front of 30,000 fans on a game that's not going to be on TV. This is embarrassing as hell to us and really just further hurts our rep in the SEC.

2017/2018 could be a hell of a year for us. We'll have guys like Drew Lock, Nate Brown, Walter Brady, etc. as experienced upperclassmen. But no matter how far we go, we'll be held down the entire season and bashed because of a weak non-conference schedule. It sounds crazy now, but what if we have a shot at the playoffs or a NY6 bowl game and we don't get in because our only Power 5 team we played was Purdue?

I just hope somebody is as pissed as I am about this

Bring back the schedules of the 60's and 70's. We would beat our share of the blue bloods and lose to the patsies.

I'd like to see us play a USC or OSU again, but right now that's unrealistic. Those schools are (thinking) they will be in the CFP playoff every year and I don't think they want to risk Mizzou being their only P5 non-con. Realistically, I'd love to see us play teams like Michigan State, Utah, or Oklahoma State.

NCAA needs to put a stop to this with mandatory 2 game OOC P5 cross scheduling. i.e. 2017 SEC vs. ACC, Big 12 V.S. Pac 12 etc.

Other than getting Illinois or kansas on the schedule, I'm not upset. UConn was short notice. Wyoming, Memphis, and Missouri State were favors for former assistants. Purdue and West Virginia are decent P5 games.

This is the schedule you get when you change conferences. 2015-2020 was fricked in the move.

Yes a lot of the scheduling issues are a result of the move to the SEC. Schedules are set years in advance. The SEC move had Mizzou way behind in scheduling.
Other than that I don't have any real issues with the schedule. Mizzou schedules pretty similar to other midtier teams on P5 conferences.
I could see Mizzou trying to get future matchups with Nebraska, K state, Okie Lite. We need to stop even thinking about scheduling Kansas.

End of year SOS's tell you everything. Mizzou's final SOS is competitive each year.

Several have already stated part of the prob is moving to the SEC. And that is true.

And why did we play Arky State in Jonesboro? MONEY. Simply, give more or shut up.

I look at weak the OOC games as just pre-season. The NFL has it, why shouldn't college ball have it too?

And for those wanting the schedules of the 60's and 70's (and I was there), the college game has changed significantly. First, there are more games. Get over it, I have.

I know that when Arkansas shifted over to the SEC it took over a decade for our scheduling to sort itself out. Worst of all, for us, is that only Texas team we could get on the schedule for a long time was SMU, which did not help our recruiting at all.

Mizzou will bounce back but it will probably be a few years before you start seeing a steady diet of blue blood teams in the OOC. You have to think that Nebraska will come calling sooner or later though.

Our non con scheduling always sucked under Alden. Hopefully Rhoades will improve it.

In 2017, we have Auburn and Arky and 2018 we have Bama in Arkansas. If our guys survive those West games we will be in the playoffs or the Big 6. Fear not. Win the SEC in any given year and you are in the playoffs.

Those are SEC games and not nonconference games.

Just to clarify - I'm not one of those idiots that thinks every non-con should be P5. I understand that FCS opponents and G5 opponents are necessary to making a schedule. I'm just angry that we can't even play an average team as our P5 team. I think we all saw how teams get screwed over by the committee for having a bad OOC schedule last year.

I would like to see more interesting noncon games but this isn't really true. Any season is going to come down to how we do in the SEC

We have to prove we can beat these teams. Memphis would have beaten us the last two years. They beat Mississippi last year when they were ranked 13th. Purdue, West Virginia, and BYU are good opponents. We struggled with UConn at home last year. Playing them on the road will be tough.

Or not. Predict the unforeseeable with greater accuracy next time, mmkay?
