Maty's still sub .500 completion.
10-22
I get that he's a leader. Will we ever see his completion numbers go up?

If you believe analysts like Greg McElroy, Mauk's problems are connected to piss poor footwork.
I've also heard his dad still has Maty's ear on quarterbacking. If true, I don't see things changing.

How many of Mauks passes were dropped. He may improve a lot and not show in statistics due to a green group of WRs.
Would be interesting to see a breakdown of how each QB did with each offense & what defense he was throwing against.

One of the most impressive debuts for a Missouri freshman QB I've seen in my seven years covering these things.

Missouri's going through its first scrimmage of the fall on Faurot Field on Saturday.
Gary Pinkel said the 1s and 2s will go through about 45-50 reps and the depth chart WILL CHANGE. Emphasis mine.
We'll have play-by-play and analysis throughout. Until then, check out what we'll be watching in each position group.
First, an injury update. These guys are dressed in red and will not participate.
PK Andrew Baggett (back)
OL Andy Bauer (hip)
WR Richaud Floyd (ribs)
WR Thomas Richard (hamstring)
S Ian Simon (hamstring)
The only one of those that's surprising is Baggett. The word from on high is back spasms. And running back Morgan Steward appears to be full-go today. He didn't scrimmage last year before his hip injury.
Some special teams reflections for you.
Punt return depth: Aarion Penton, Thomas Wilson, Johnathon Johnson, Cam Hilton
Kick return depth: Anthony Sherrils, John Gibson, Finis Stribling, Emanuel Hall
Backup quarterback Corbin Berkstresser was also working on the put and kick return protect teams.
Now, some scrimmage updates:
Tyler Hunt made a 31-yard run in which he found space coming out of the end zone against the 1 defense.
Clarence Green was active early, pressuring Maty Mauk into an early throw on a blitz -- a good one on the run that DeSean Blair dropped -- then hitting Nate Brown for a 4-yard loss on a screen.
But Brown got his revenge the next play, taking a curl from Mauk, breaking a Green tackle and going 27 yards.
Drew Lock completed his first two passes for 15 yards to Johnathon Johnson and 13 on the run to Emanuel Hall. He also scrambled for a 4-yard gain and looked pretty good against the 3 or 4 defense.
Justin Smith moves really well. Especially for a 6-7 dude. He caught a quick screen from Marvin Zanders, made a quick step inside and accelerated past the 3 defense for a 60-yard touchdown. I'm sure the fan base will take this as calmly as it can...
Eddie Printz comes up with something out of nothing. Charles Harris got a huge burst off the line and shoved Malik Cuellar back into his path, but Printz maintained his presence and went up top to J'Mon Moore for 65 yards to the 5-yard line, leading to a field goal for the 2 offense against the 1 defense. Printz has looked good so far.

I'm not advocating a controversy. There's no way you can throw a FR in at QB for Mizzou IMO. Especially with Mauk's experience. M
It will be interesting to see if Zanders, Printz and Lock can push Mauk, though.

I was only half serious.
Good to see though. Sounds like he will be the real deal.
Mauks completion rate can be directly related to the number of wounded ducks he throws. I'd be willing to bet that was an issue again.

PM said Lock was the best QB on the field today. Granted he was going against the 2's and 3's mostly, but apparently he was very impressive. Mauk was under .500 again for completion percentage, but he did have a couple of drops. He also made several poor passes to guys who were wide open.

Should I be excited at all the big plays or worried that our D was giving them up?

@ShowMeMizzouJP: #Mizzou DE Charles Harris told me that Connor McGovern is the best LT he has gone against in practice; including NFLers Britt and Morse

So looking at the offense of the future whoever takes over for Mauk in 2017 season will have a loaded offensive team around him.

Missouri doesn't have a wide receiver problem.
This is some DARN GOOD news to me. One concern removed from my brain.
Stay HEALTHY Tigers! It's gonna be a great season Tiger fans. M-I-Z!!!

Unfortunately it sounds like JJ broke his ankle. He can't put any weight on it at all right now. Still hoping for the best but it doesn't sound good.

With the second-team offense, he completed 4 of 5 passes for 35 yards and the score to Reese. Of his five incompletions, three were drops, one was a long pass just off Reese's fingertips and the other was a pretty bad miss to Ray Wingo.
