I really feel that most of the ones who didn't have respect for Mizzou where people who didn't know how good Mizzou was.
They just assumed that oh there not from the SEC so they must suck.
But those who actually had seen Mizzou play had more respect.
I just wanted to say great 2nd year in the SEC and keep up the hard work and competition.

fell that y'all did gain alot of respect this years form the other top SEC schools and fans.
Y'all had a very good offense and kept winning games even after your star QB went down.

The thing about it is this...

South Carolina won the East in 2010 and got manhandled, coincidentally, by Auburn, who went on to win the NC that year.

People still don't respect South Carolina.

They appreciate them as a threat on the schedule, instead of seeing it as a cupcake game like South Carolina has traditionally been. But they aren't respected.

I think if Mizzou can win their division 30% of the time over the next 20 years, they'll be respected.

Right now, Mark Richt has won the East 5 times in 13 years (not counting the years we tied for the East but didn't go to CG, some schools cough cough South Carolina count that as winning the division) and UGA is still regarded by many to be a 2nd tier team in the conference.

Use the success to win over recruits and donors, don't worry about what the other rednecks think about you. You'll never convince some people, no matter what your level of success.

I don't think I've responded to this thread yet, but I give zero fricks how much the SEC respects us. Mississippi State is accepted, but isn't respected.

We've got to fight this battle on two fronts; respect and acceptance.

Respect is earned by winning and not being weak as shite.

Acceptance isn't earned by pretending to be southern and doing the y'all shite and pretending you're all baptist (unless you are, then whatever), and pretending you eat southern food on the reg. Be your normal Missouri self and stop trying to assimilate into the SEC culture. Missouri isn't SEC, it's Missouri and Missouri has own place in the SEC just like Louisiana is its own place in the SEC. Stop pretending to like grits (nobody that isn't poor does) and do your thing like Missourians.

Respect is earned by teams, belonging (acceptance) is imposing your will on others that respect you.

I'm not the proudest Missourian in the world, but I hate that many Missouri fans so freely shite on their Missourian being for acceptance in the SEC.

I say and use y'all all the time but that predates the sec. If I get bonus points though, I do hate grits.

Sorta neutral on the grits-they're ok, but it's been forever since I had any.

I think Mizzou gained a lot of respect. People thought Mizzou wouldn't be able to hang with the SEC teams.

When SEC teams play Mizzou they know they'll have to put up points. They know Mizzou is going to put up some points, etc. When Mizzou first joined the SEC people felt they'd be like another UK in football, a gimmie win. Mizzou was injured and went 2-6. That tells you how good Mizzou is when you factor in the recruiting classes they get. Last season they barely lost to Florida and Vandy, could have easily been 4-4 with a beat up offense. I'm amazed to see ANY SEC teams go 0-8, Mizzou was injured and still competed.

I only want to add one thing: grits are NOT just poor people's food. As an example, well made shrimp and grits are proof there is a God.

It's like saying that mashed potatoes are poor people's food. It's just a dumb statement.

I'd argue that 2010 East is a lot weaker than 2013 East. Plus Missouri actually competed in the SECCG, while South Carolina barely competed for one half in ours.

Missouri gained a lot of respect from me. Even in a "watered down" East, it's still the SEC. Missouri won all their games when their backs were against the wall. Takes a lot of determination and balls to do that.

I'll still take jabs at Mizzou, but it's only out of competition love

My parents are southern, so I grew up saying y'all and eating a lot of southern food. But I don't like grits either.

And respect is earned on the field. Acceptance will only come with time. The team can achieve the former. Little will affect the latter, although I will say that I think we've made a great impression on fans who have visited Columbia, and on the schools we've visited as well. The Auburn fans I met in Atlanta were awesome, and very welcoming.

ETA - Thanks, CNB. To me, the thing that stood out this season was how we continued to compete even when we had injuries. Our back-up QB started 1/3 of the season, 4 games - and went 3-1. We were fortunate with injuries otherwise, but when you have a senior captain miss 4 games, and another senior captain miss 2 with injuries, it leaves a hole. I'm proud of how the team responded to that.

We're losing a lot of leadership with this class - Gaines, Franklin, Wilson, Washington, etc. I hope we have some guys ready to step into those roles.

I LOVE grits!

I don't love everyones grits, but I do love grits when they are made properly. I prefer cheese grits over plain but when cooked properly they are awesome!

OH and I am not poor! So that statement isn't true!

They already had our respect no matter what any other Aggies say. We knew they were good. It's just another glaring example of how the bevo 12 can hold someone down. Congrats Mizzou.

I agree with this. We knew they were an excellent program and deserved respect. Injuries killed their team in year one so that wasn't indicative of how they normally perform. I think both of the new additions to the SEC have earned respect at this point, Missouri more so because they have been to Atlanta. Hope we make it their soon.

Also want to say Howdy and thanks for letting me join yalls board.

This line cracks me the hell up because it's so true. I see many Mizzou fans typing that shite out here and just shake my head. This will sound like a contradiction after what I just said, but I do say y'all more times than not in real life. Not because I picture myself as southern, but because my mom is and she has had a heavy influence on my life.

I could be wrong of course, but it just seems so contrived to see so many Mizzou fans use "y'all" here because other than southern Mo, you just don't hear it much in our state. We are a midwest state, with no doubt, southern ties, but even with that, you won't get much acceptance in the Rant, so just be yourselves.

I have come to love being called Yankees here. We Missourians know it's bs so, atleast for me, it's fun to wear it as a badge of honor.

I don't get to eat grits much, but mmmm, I do love it.
