Do you believe the offense looked like it had a plan? Butler’s did.

The year is young and Cuonzo is with us for at least two more years after this. This isn’t some diatribe forming. But it’s an obvious issue without an obvious solution.

Yes there is an offensive plan. Part of that plan is to use shooters to spread teams out. After you spread them out, then attack the rim using offball cuts, drives and ball screens.

Step 1 is failing and there’s not enough talent when Tilmon and Mark Smith collectively do nothing positive in the court.

Again, I’m not saying Cuonzo is stupid or doesn’t know basketball. That’s obviously not the case. Anybody who gets to this level obviously has a superior understanding of the game.

Problem is though. He sacrifices offense for defense and his offense has pretty much always been poor to middling at best. It’s not something that is going to change. Now, if we shoot better we’ll obviously score more but the same limitations are always going to exist.

This was always my major hang up with this hire. His style of basketball fricking sucks. I thought he may be able to recruit at a high enough level that he could overcome his own system but that’s not happening either

Most of the top teams play slow. To improve from a bubble type of team he will need to recruit better. You rarely see teams go from terrible to great immediately.

You brought up Pearl earlier. He won 44 games his first 3 seasons at Auburn with no tournament appearances and 1 winning season. 54 losses.

For Cuonzo to match that record (he already made a tournament, so is already better than what Pearl did at Auburn) he will need to win 5 more games this season.

Which “top teams” suck on offense?

Mizzou doesn’t suck on offense. They aren’t great, just are average. Could become good if Watson and Pickett revert back to their freshmen form.

90th in offensive efficiency and barely busting 50 vs legitimate opponents.

That sucks.

Virginia and Michigan St. sucks on offense and so does Mizzou's football team.

90th out of 350 is above average even if you just look at schools in the 6 or 7 major basketball conferences it’s average. Unless Mizzou starts playing at a faster tempo don’t expect to scoring to go up much, even if they start hitting open shots. You just aren’t going to get to 75-80 points in a game with less than 60 possessions and fewer than 50 shots.

Michigan State is averaging 74 points against power 5 competition.

Virginia is a plodding style for sure.

I think the goal this season needs to be top 60 in offensive efficiency. Do that with the defense they have and you easily make the tournament. That’s basically what Florida was last season. Top 20 in defensive efficiency and top 60 on offense.

It’s not average when looking at the power conferences. Well below, and if you look at the power conference teams rated below of us none of them are any good. Weird, I know.

You watch the games. You’ve seen it. Not sure why you are intent on arguing this very obvious fact

Oh good grief. Pearl?

We don't have the money men needed for a Pearl program.

None of those teams have a good defense. And there are at least 30 teams from power conferences that are ranked below Mizzou in offensive efficiency according to KenPom. It’s an average offense that isn’t shooting the ball well. They play at a super slow pace so won’t be a team that’s ever close to the top of the SEC or country in scoring.

Basketball is all about recruiting, then it's who plays the best brand of street ball. I'm not sure anyone "Learns" anything past High School now.

And stay off my lawn!

Has a lot to do with it, but basketball (certainly more than football) actually has at least a hint of parity.

It was the Hoiberg version of the motion where instead of a passing motion offense, it is a handoff motion. I thought one of the coaches was versed in that offense.
