I'm with JQ on this. I'll say the same thing about Martin that I do BO. It starts with identifying and keeping the top recruits in state and building from there. In basketball, that may mean just 1 kid each class or every other class. Like he said and like in football, that doesn't mean you can't still have a successful program.

And so far, since Cuonzo has been hired he’s been getting players from STL. Maybe similar to the 2018 football class. Odom didn’t beat out blue bloods like Texas, OU and USC. Cuonzo isn’t beating them out either. Both coaches are getting the next tier of recruit from STL

Maybe if they have winning programs to sell them they can get the elite local recruits.

Bunch of crystal balls coming in for NC on Caleb Love today. Cuonzo has really not succeeded recruiting in STL which is both surprising and disappointing

This is weird coming from you.

He’s made inroads in St. Louis. If we lose Caleb Love to NC State, I’ll be mad. I won’t if he goes to NC. Cuonzo made a good push with him. It’s just going to be consistency over time that makes the difference.

Hope you’re right. I’m not mad about it either, but the biggest positive of the Martin hire was his recruiting ability and how he had previously pulled in elite talent at his other spots. Specifically with his connections in STL I thought it would reasonable to expect to win at least some of these. Maybe not.

Outside of that first class, which had extenuating circumstances, it just hasn’t happened. Again though, that doesn’t mean he can’t succeed. It would just be a lot easier if he could get at least some of these guys. I like him, his character is absolutely top notch and he’s a decent enough coach, I think. What I thought would be his biggest strength has not materialized yet, that’s all.

He needs to show that he can win on the court at Mizzou before we can start to expect him to beat out elite schools like Kentucky and North Carolina. Roy Williams has probably been the best coach in the country since he went to UNC. Has more championships, final 4’s and conference championships than anyone.

Ok Self has more conference championships, but it’s against weaker competition.

Mark Smith, Tillmon we’re both big gets out of STL. Pickett will be a favorite tiger IMO by the time he leaves. Watson by his junior yr should be all SEC. Basketball players should get significantly better each year as they mature and go through battles. Has he missed on some of the big fish, yes. If your paying attention to College basketball though, there is a lot more going on in recruiting when blue bloods come calling. Rameys recruitment was dirty from the start. Cuonzo backed off if we all remember...Wonder why, then they flirted when Louisville was getting investigated. Ramey Jets are an Adidas school after all. I personally really like where our roster is at. Still young and 4 year players that will only get better together.

Big 12 is a very strong b-ball conference and always has been. Perhaps down for a few yrs, but still very good. They do have the refs in KU’s pocket though in that conference.

Williams couldn't hold Coach K's clip-board.

Williams has won the ACC championship, been to more final 4’s and won more NCAA championships while he’s been at UNC than K.

K lands more NBA players, Williams has won more.

How in the world did we go down this path?

Both have had great success. Coach K has won more games during the same time span that Williams has been at UNC. Duke I think leads the head to head.

Williams with more success in the tourney and with titles like you said.

Since we are here it’s not just tournament success that Williams has the lead. He as 8 ACC conference championships to 3 for K.

On recruiting there’s some buzz that Bradford May go to a prep school and reclassify to 2021.

A player to watch in STL is Kobe Clark. He’s a 6’6 guard for Vashon. Mario and Cam get all the attention because they are next level athletes, but Vashon asks Clark to do more.

What happened to that 6'9 player that transferred to Vashon

Are you talking about the Sudanese player? I don’t think most consider him a P5 level player.

A thought on Wilmore. On media day Wednesday, Cuonzo talked about adding a couple walkons that needed to get some paperwork completed. Maybe Wilmore is going to take the Braun approach and be offered as a walkon with a chance to earn a scholarship for next season.

That's why I said titles. Or meant to if I didn't.

Can't teach height. Hope they can teach moving your feet. I could see that jump hook being awfully tough to stop.
