It most often happened with freshmen who were backups so it wasn't a big deal. They wouldn't play for a game or two or if they did it was for only a few snaps.

The starting RBs that had it happen to them (temple, abron, etc.) it varied. both of them among others got benched for the rest of games the first time and reduced carries moving forward.

It isn't black/white where every RB that fumbled got benched multiple games.

The only constant was fumbling had immediate punishments and that went for WRs, too. Most of the time (especially freshmen) were benched for the rest of the game at a minimum and then it varied by player after that.

BO benched Crockett in 2016. He fumbled game 1 against WVU. Didn’t play again that week and barely played the next 2-3 games.

So basically he wouldn’t bench his best players for fumbling, but he might reduce their opportunities immediately after?

Seems pretty standard.

I remember Crockett kind of getting in the doghouse for fumbles, and Johnson lost his PR job last year after he muffed a catch.

Pinkel was consistent. Albert O should have been benched a few times and hasn't.

False. Crockett got more touches that game. At least 1 KOR.

And the very next game for EMU, Crockett led the team in rushing with 2nd most carries at 12.

Nah, I’m not for benching our best players.

He knows he’s not supposed to fumble. Sitting him on the bench won’t make him know it anymore than he already does.

Your best players don't put the ball on the ground in clutch situations. That isn't a formula for winning.

This year Mizzou has a win at Purdue, a team I expect to be bowl eligible

They need 4 wins to get bowl eligible.
Illini
@tOSU
MSU
@Iowa
Minnesota
@Wisconsin
Indiana

Possible but not so certain.

One thing that is the same between 2015 and 2018 is I don't think we've ever beaten a bowl eligible team, including in the bowl game we made.

2016 both Arkansas and Vandy were bowl eligible. So was E Michigan.

I disagree that there’s talent there to win 10 games. Outside of Beckner, Hall, Palmore and maybe Garrett none of the defensive players would start for any top half of the SEC defense.

Did you really just do that? You listed damn near 1/2 the starting defense and said they could start not for just any defense, not just any SEC defense, but they could start for the top half of SEC defenses. And use that as the reason they aren't very good?

Conversely, I'd say that's pretty damn good. The defense ain't all that great, primarily because of the back end and the edge rushers but having that many that can start on a top half of SEC defenses is certainly enough to win the East and probably 10 games.

When did 4 players become half of 11?

That’s some new age math

My recollection, and it's purely that so it could be wrong, but GP would make his statement by taking the player out of the starting lineup but they'd still get snaps. Message sent.

Try reading it again. DAMN NEAR half typically means something slightly less than half. 4 versus 5 1/2

Break it down a different way here’s the top half of the SEC
Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, A&M, LSU, Florida and Kentucky.

Who on Mizzou’s defense gets snaps on those teams?
Beckner for sure
Fairly positive Palmore and Hall
Maybe Garrett

As for BO if forced to choose, I'd say he's in over his head but I also think it's premature to make that decision and hope he proves me wrong. I can only base whether he is in over his head or not by his product on the field and that has not been impressive to date. Maybe he gets it turned around if given 5 full seasons or 10. Only on what he has accomplished, I'd give him a C- or D+

I know what you're saying. I'm just not sure if saying that DAMN NEAR half of the starting defense would start for those teams supports your argument that this team doesn't have enough talent to win 10 games. If you had said 1 or 2, then maybe that would support the argument.

I guess if you thought this was a 10 win team going into the season I could see the frustration you have with the team. I thought it was a 7 or 8 win team. Still do. That’s also the average that Pinkel had over his tenure at Mizzou.

But we’re not at the point that we can unequivocally say he’s in over his head.

I agree. I don't know where he will end up. He does keep improving, and he's good at evaluating talent.

But for going on 30 games now we have seen the same sloppy play, the same bad penalties, the same turnovers, the same miscommunication, the same poor game day coaching. How long do we have to wait to notice that?

And there are proven quality group of 5 HC's now. Arguing to keep him sounds a lot like the arguments (I made) for KA. He'll get better, but we can have better now. I'm not into the fatalistic we can't do better shite and we no longer expect to beat top 25 teams and if we beat Ky that's a 3 year signature win. Fuk that. We are not the semi pro football factory that bama is, but we are better than that. And I bet Sterk knows it
