I’d like to move on from the SC game. Rehashing that shitshow just isn’t healthy. Wish we had a game this week we actually had a chance to win but we do have one to play.
So what kind of gameplan would you employ if you are the staff? Forfeit is not an option.
On defense- Tua is amazing and probably has the best WR corps in the country. Let’s be honest, we have no hope of stopping them. It’s a terrible matchup. What I would do though is play nickel/dime defense the entire game. Play shell coverage with the specific instruction to keep everything in front of you. Move the safeties back 5 yards if need be. This offense has lived off the deep pass, now they can almost certainly move the ball down the field methodically as well but that’s what I force them to do for two reasons. 1.It shortens the game and limits their possessions. Keep the clock moving! 2. Tua May get impatient and try to force the ball downfield so we can drop a few interceptions. If they run for 300 yards or he completes 90 of his passes in the short game then so be it. At least they didn’t hit you for 80 yard scoring plays and you have limited their possessions.
On offense- similar concept! Shorten the game. This Bama defense is good, but surprisingly they have not been the same juggernaut of years past. They are particularly pedestrian against the run which is very un Bama like. Give them a heavy dose of all of our running backs and don’t be in a hurry to snap the ball. Compliment that with short passes to the TEs. If you have success there you can open up a few deep shots later in the game.
In short, do everything you possibly can to shorten this game and limit the possessions for both teams. At that point you have to hope we win the TO battle by 3 or something like that but I believe this would be our best approach.

What’s sad is we have the pieces to potentially pull off the upset. Folks get on Saban and his rants about his team, but he is right on one thing and that is his secondary and youth in his back seven.
Mack had been out of position numerous times. You can catch Surtain in bad position. The recipe of an offense who can take the top off the defense with match up problems in the slot with 6’5 TE’s and just enough run game to keep them unbalanced can present some major problems.
You are just legitimately asking our defense to keep their offense within 35-40 pts for an upset, which is crazy to say.
I would definitely employ the Freeze method of hurry up as well. Anything under 3 yds or any 3rd down under 5 keep them from rotating and making an exotic call that would confuse Lock any further.

I would love to be upbeat about this game, but not being able to bend the edges and make Tua move is gonna kill us. I guess we break out the Heupal playbook and just go Big 12, No huddle and get Lock into a groove for an offensive shootout.

I hope not. That would be the absolute worst thing we could do IMO.
I would actually do the exact opposite of that

The past 4-5 years, Bama has only struggled with teams who go right at them. They are bigger and faster, so misdirection, exploit over pursuing, Albert O in the seam. They are too deep to tire the whole defensive side, but HUNH at least can wear out the guys on the field at the time. If we don't sub, they won't have time to sub.
Tua is gonna have 5-7 seconds on each drop back. Our DB's can't cover that long, he is gonna pick us apart, gotta be able to strike back. Of course this is all IMHO. I'm a baseball coach for fricks sake.

Honestly, will probably do what you propose.
I just think it’s going to lead to them scoring 70. We need to slow down the game as much as possible imo.
It probably doesn’t matter either way, but I think that’s our only chance to even have a prayer.
Heavy run game and a prevent defense almost and hope to force some field goals or get some turnovers

Learn the triple option this week. Could not be any worse than what they're already planning . . .

Start Micah and run the veer. It’s already in the playbook

Have every player carry a 9MM; those 5 star players from Bama would only make 1 play each.

Neither Brown nor Hall practiced today. Floyd did though

Get Hall healthy for the back half of the season and Mizzou will win 8 games. Purdue was close because he sat starting at the halfway point of the second quarter. Hall also changes the USCe game.
Hall has to get healthy, because he changes the offense.

With no Hall or Brown, just run. Run at the new corner with options and sweeps. The more running, the more clock gets spent and lower bama score.

Exactly. We need to run, run and run some more.
Build the entire gameplan around shortening the game. That also means taking away the deep pass. Make them drive.

The Alabama PBP announcer was just on 590 and thinks Mizzou's only chance is a shootout. Not that you have to abandon the run to have a shootout, but he felt a team that beats them will have to score at least 40. He also mentioned how Alabama lost the first 6 DBs from last year's squad so they're vulnerable on the back end.

We seriously need to be more disciplined......everywhere. No one is exempt.

They probably can’t be beat either way but if we get into a shootout with them they might score 80.
I’ll be very interested to see what we try to do. I’ll assume we do try to get them in a shoot out and the game will be over by halftime.
I’d be impressed if they broke tendency though and tried to make them do things they aren’t used to doing. Their Pass D is actually much better than their Rush D

I mentioned that above and also similar to a post I made with Georgia's loss of Roquan, look at Mack Wilson throughout the game. The guy is a physical monster, but because he is now the main signal caller taking over for Evans. He gets out of position his fare share and you see how teams are averaging close to 5 yards a play against them.
Also our D Tackles should still get a lot of push against Bama, but thats about it on the defensive side.
In the end we need Odom to coach the game of his life, pull out all the stops and hope to be with 6-10 going into the fourth to make them uncomfortable. Have Drew Lock play like a top 10 pick. Teams in that range know they need help outside of QB as well, so they expect their franchise guy to be a bridge helping make the team better. In college, a great QB can win you games. QB1 at Mizzou needs to show that and get paid!!!
Imagine if Odom wins this game, all is forgotten so he needs to coach like his career is on the line. Bama is more talented and better coached and will beat our program 9/10 times, you just need to make Saturday that one time.

This was Hugh's philosophy and he won two games against them. He gambled and said we are going to air this thing out. Think about it, this man beat Bama with Bo Wallace one year (although they had a decent defense) and then again with no running game at all (seriously Ole Miss could not run on anybody). He just needed to be one point ahead even if that mean 53-52.
He basically wanted Bama uncomfortable and to put his athletes in space. Run quick and uptempo pace when you are 2nd and 6 or less and go fast on third down when you are ahead of the chains keeping Bama from subbing and running exotic packages with superior personnel making them stay in base defenses for easier QB reads. If we slow it down Bama will sub and they have a great defensive staff. Lock with throw 3+ picks easy based on how they will run combination man/zone principles at him. Saturday showed Lock still has some one read in him.
