I've been thinking about it - and the more we win the more pissed off I will be about shitting the bed against Wyoming...

Trouncing South Carolina like we did WVU would be a start... what about y'all?

As long as the team meets expectations most won’t care, or shouldn’t care about which games were losses.
The general expectation going into the season was
9 or 10 wins
Compete for 2nd in the SEC East
Be in the running for a New Year’s Day bowl game. That’s assuming the bowl ban is lifted.

Do those 3 and it’s a successful season

8 or 9 wins is fine. We’re kidding ourselves if we say anything else.

Vegas had them at 8 without the bowl. So with that thinking 9 wins would be a solid season. Very attainable still. Team looked really good yesterday. Tough first game to play on the road, but you’ve got to find a way to win even if you play poorly. They almost did, but almost doesn’t count. Especially with Barry already having a lot of those early in his career. IMO Bryant looked a ton better yesterday. Showed elusiveness that was lacking in week 1. Team has exciting talent on both sides of the ball.

SC is going to use a two back set with plenty of motion. If the eye discipline isn't any better than it was vs Wyoming, Dowdle and Feaster will hit the second level and never stop.

The season can't be anything but marred. We can't go back and undo the Wyoming game. Even if we went 11-1, we should have been 12-0. Having said that, if they play like they did yesterday, there will be plenty of fun football to watch between now and the end of the season.

So 11-1 would mean Mizzou is playing in the SEC championship game with a shot at the playoff. The Wyoming loss wouldn’t matter.

Unless the bow ban stands and that loss could prevent Mizzou from pulling a UCF and claiming a title. I still think there are at least 1-2 losses on the schedule. So the Wyoming loss. Oils be the difference from a mid level bowl and a New Years Bowl game.

Maybe I misunderstood the way the question was posed. As 808 said, 8 or 9 wins would be "acceptable" and would mean BO did a "satisfactory" job. But no matter what he does, he will forever have shite the bed yet again to start a season. Just can't go back and undo that. If we weren't so "accepting" of mediocrity, we'd say a real coach with real talent with this schedule would finish with no less than 10 wins excluding a bowl game, if any.

Plenty of good football to watch if we get more of what we saw yesterday. I'll enjoy it.

So you think Mizzou should be on the level of Alabama, Georgia and LSU? I don’t think any other SEC has consistently done that. All of those schools have way more resources (money and proximity to elite recruits)

I think the goal at Mizzou should be a minimum of 8 wins every season. Challenge for conference championship game at least once out of every 4 seasons. At least until Mizzou has the resources to make a bigger commitment to football.

It’s like you’re incapable of reading. He didn’t say 10 wins every year. He said he 10 wins with this schedule. Which is right.

Guess I skipped over that part. Although I don’t remember many on this site projecting 10 wins before the season, so it’s interesting how that changed.

I never got into that thread. I know most outsiders had Mizzou at 9 or 10 wins. Which is still on the table.

LINK

Based on the S&P+ rankings Mizzou will probably be favored in 8 of the final 10 games. So far Odom has managed to lose a game he shouldn’t every season and win a game he shouldn’t have very season.

I go back to what I listed earlier for the season to be considered successful. Meet expectations of 9-10 wins, compete for second in the SECE and be in contention for a NY 6 bowl game.

I worry less than others here about how the team gets there.

If we went 11-1. We win the East, play for the SEc title and a chance at the playoffs.

Nobody would give a shite about Wyoming at that point.

So, to sum up, it didn’t change. It was expected by a lot of our fans.

I wonder how accurate those fans have been in years past. It could be fun exercise to see who tends to underestimate or overestimate the team going into the season.

There will be one shite the bed game (Already had that one) and one "WTF"er mid season. Usually after the bye week. Last year was Kentucky.

We'll beat someone we think is good (Florida usually seems to draw this straw) but ends up Meh for the season. There will be a few groaners for wins, and a couple of blow outs.

IF the NCAA lifts the ban (HAH!) we'll get hammered by a mid level Big 12/BiG team in a bowl.

Funny how asking how accurate various posters are in picking season win totals is considered moving goalposts by you. Especially when I have already posted what I think is a successful season.
