They kinda were.
And then in 2008, they were undefeated and beat Bama in the Sugar Bowl. That buys you some leeway for a while.

Beating Bama in the Sugar Bowl was the year UM was the coach there with Alex Smith as the QB. Meyer, Mullen, and Whittingham made an awesome staff.

You’re conflating 2004 and 2008. Meyer was coaching at Florida in 2005 after leaving Utah. Whittingham became Utah’s head coach in 2005 and was undefeated in 2008.

Well, gentlemen, after discussion, now what are we going to offer Mr. Odom in the way of compensation?

15% to 20% base raise
Double the buyout
Increase the assistant pool
Let him make a killing on increasing attendance

Another 11 pages and I think we'll all be in agreement.

Well, this time of year, what the hell else are we gonna talk about?

3.5M base for 5 years. Another 200-300k in incentives. Contract fully guaranteed in yr 1, decreasing in percentage each year after. 300-500k increase in asst pool
Something along those lines would be my guess.

I would start with a lower base. Something close to 3 million. But have more guaranteed. Have a buyout of 7-10 million. Increase the pool for assistants by close to 1 million. Then have 1-2 million in potential incentives. Don’t just tie the incentives to ticket revenue.
Also structure the incentives in a way that if certain ones are achieved, that would then get added into the base in subsequent years.

Imagine how many pages it could take us to agree on what the helmets should look like.

This.
3.25 sounds good

if you are just going to continually post facts, you're really going to have to find a different board, or at least a different thread.

I agree with Bass's numbers.
We can revisit this next year. I really need to see what BO can do without Lock, with another year of Dooley development, can he get a handle on the defensive backfield, and can hard decisions be made about the defensive coaching. Will there be another slow start? And his public relations really needs to step up.
A good performance in the Bowl would help as well. Time off has not shown well of BO and his staff in the past.
Agent machinations aside, BO is not going anywhere.

I really have to wonder why this hasn't shown up in this thread
which makes me like him more
