Smith hasn't really done anything here.
Brown is a former starter, but it seems as if the coaches don't view him as a great fit for the current system. He plays a bit, but Collins is the first outside guy off the bench.
It's wide open for Ballard or Davis. Or Kam Scott for that matter.

Smith has battled injuries. He missed most of fall camp with a knee issue.
Brown is now the primary backup to Hall. He probably gets first shot at replacing Moore and Collins. Though Ballard and Davis will be here for spring ball.

Losing in State talent is nothing new to the Mizzou program. Many people were upset when we lost Alex Ofodile to Oregon. He has been a huge bust, but Mizzou recruited Hall, Johnson, Smith, and Floyd the same year.
Floyd had 3 catches against Florida the same amount Ofodile has for the season.
Mizzou will lose in state talent like Ezekiel Elliott, but not being a blue blood college I have come to expect this in recruiting. Finding players like Charles Harris and coaching them up and making them better is what will make Mizzou competitive and it has in the past.
We will get players like Drew Lock and DGB occasionally and maybe A.J. Ofodile can make things better with in state coaches (except for Hickman).

Looks like 6'8" Long Island NY TE Messiah Swinson had a good OV last weekend and now predictions are for a Mizzou announcement soon.

Beat Tennessee and there may be a couple commits next week.

2019 4* RB Jirehl Brock from Quincy IL also visited.

if we beat tennessee, BO will stay and recruiting will pick up.

That was the point I regularly made during the losing streak.
Either Mizzou starts winning, doubt about BO coming back go away, and recruiting picks up.
Or that doesn’t happen, BO is fired, and recruiting picks up under a new coach.

Everyone knows it’s easier to recruit to a 6-6 team than a 3-9 team. The question is how much do we lose from our slow start?
We are looking at 0-fer the Missouri 10. And several decommits that hurt.
Do we finish in the top 50 in recruiting and ho does that affect us 4 years from now?

Is Parker shaky? Haven't seen that. We are still in good shape for Thompson as far as I know.

If Mizzou wins out the class will be a top 40 class. About in line with what Mizzou usually has.
If BO doesn’t win enough, then he will be fired.
I think I saw today that Georgia is the only SEC school with a 5 star commitment. That won’t last.

I get it you think regardless of success in the field, recruiting will stay the same. That’s also a form of faith in your way of thinking.
I think the opposite happens. Recruiting will be better with better on field results.

The #25 class has an average star rating of 2.9 and 20 kids in it.
MU's class has an average star rating of 3.09 and 11 kids in it.
3.09 > 2.9

No. I didn’t say that. Right now our recruiting blows. We do not have an infinite window of time to change that. We have one of the worst classes in all of P5 football. When we had some impressive commits, everyone who wanted to toot Barry’s horn used those as examples of his success. Now that they’re gone, we’re supposed to pretend we’re going to make it up on volume or something.
There isn’t an infinite supply of recruits or an infinite window of time. Every kid we recruit who says No is one less kid who we wanted here. I get we need a narrative to make that ok. Tell us again how it all comes out in the wash.

I wonder if there’s a reason for ranking classes partially based on the number of recruits.

It makes the rankings a random number generator at this point in the cycle. Alabama currently has the #24 ranked class. Their class jumps to #4 in terms of quality.
Purdue has the lowest rated P5 class at 2.5 and there are 27 P5 teams with a class rated lower than MU. They keep winning and that # will continue to increase.
