2016 is a year where we have to question what type of program we would like moving forward. Are we content with competing for division championships when things fall our way or are we trying to break through the glass ceiling.

We don't want to admit but this is a Jimmy's and Joes game in a conference that has an abundance of them. Yes coaching is important but coaching only gets a player in the correct position to throw and catch a 5 yard out route against certain coverages. Talent takes that 5 yard route 70 yards and to the house.

We have potential across the board but not the dynamic players to put us in a position to compete for conference titles let alone national championships. That's why we have to ask ourselves are we ok with being average to above average. If we are lets stick with the status quo and live by the WDWWD mantra and complain about the "what if" scenarios. Or we have to start being that fan base that demands more and it stars with our 2017 class.

There are to many top prospects in our recruiting area to let other schools take them. We need these players to commit early on in the recruiting cycle and use that as a springboard to bring in game changing/high potential athletes to round out a top 10 class. We need that, otherwise what happened Saturday will continue to occur and no coach or scheme can continually fix those shortcomings.

Florida is the better team, but we didn't lose the game because they have better players. We lost the game because we can't pass block, took stupid penalties on defense, our WR don't know where they are on the field, our OC can't seem to fix any of it, etc

It's execution and it will always be. Unless you are one of the top 10 recruiting schools, which is no guarantee anyway, you have to play smart, consistent football each week. We were far from that last week.

Yes penalties played apart and coaching may play apart as well. I am big believer in coaching and execution as well but respectfully I saw something totally different on the field.

Slow footed/non quick twitch OG's were asked to block way better athletes in their front four qon Saturday.

Tabor able to recover after an interception and ride the sideline when he was about to fall over was athleticism. Where our WR's catch a ball and not only have have the lack of field awareness but also lack the body control to turn those plays into touchdowns is due to a lack of athleticism not coaching.

We see where having these players work in our favor. Coaching and execution dictates who Charles Harris has on a particular zone read play. His natural athletic ability makes it where not only he disrupts the play by knowing his assignment but having the quickness to recover and drop the option man for a loss as well.

2017 will be the year not 2016

Next year Mizzou has road games at Florida, @ LSU, @ Tennessee, & @ WVU.

I meant from a acquisition of talent perspective. I know the schedule appears tough we all know things can change in an instance though.

The 2017 class has high profile talent in our natural recruiting footprint. Early commitments from those players is vital in having a complete class that could springboard recruiting moving forward building a class around players like Trevor Trout in 2018.

Tell me the last national champion to NOT have a top recruiting class too. We can compete with anyone with our current approach. To win a championship requires landing more than a couple top recruits each year

My issue is the OL. Look at the experienced and upper classmen starters this year. But they are the biggest problem on the team, IMHO.

Next year, most of the OL starters are gone. The second stringers who could not beat the starters this year will be next up. Talk about a rebuild! Talk about coming trouble. They better recruit some beef for now, not later. Are JUCO boys the answer??? A better and/or new OC or OL coach??? Or just let our QB and RB's be murdered by SEC defenses?

I don't think its impossible, but it obviously makes it very difficult to do.

The problem being here that we can't just "recruit better" unless we decide we are going to start cheating our asses off.

The last I can remember was Washington, BYU and Colorado. Arkansas had an outside shot if they beat OU in the Orange Bowl.

But you have to remember, the best teams were shut out of the National Championship picture if they weren't a blue blood program. Even this last year, not including TCU (which no one would have beaten). TCU again in 2010 and Utah in 2008, both those teams should have had to opportunity to play for the NC. Also Okie State in 2011.

The old system was incredibly biased toward awarding the Blue Bloods. Locking out SMU during the Dickerson/James senior year, no one traveling to play BYU in the Holiday Bowl even though they had a number 1 ranking, the constant propping up of Notre Dame and Penn State.

I think a change in mizzou's recruiting philosophy can help them with some of the 4 star talent they are missing.

One critical fault I hear time after time is how late they offer players. Whether that's how long they take on evaluation or if their recruiting staff is slow on recognizing prospects, that problem has to be mitigated.

Another is we need to have coaches on our staff with established connections in recruiting hotbeds. There is no reason we don't have a coach with strong Florida/Georgia ties in our team. None what so ever.

Another suggestion is we need to focus on Ohio, Michigan, and Illinois to reduce travel costs in the budget while establishing and maintaining relationships. The SEC is a brand that could be sold in Big 10 country. We are the farthest north of all our counterparts we need to use that to our advantage.

Yeah, IDK. I think we could possibly do marginally better but we have so many natural disadvantages in recruiting that I don't see any substantial gains in recruiting without some fat stacks of cash and that hasn't translated into championships for Ole Miss either.

BIG agreement, sell Mizzou and the SEC. Get some of that corn feed beef for our OL and DL out of IA, NE, CO, ks, MN, Dakotas, etc. There is limited quantity, but we should know and pursue quality.

Mizzou heavily recruits academically in Chicagoland.

Mizzou Mule is spot on. Iowa and Minnesota kids can be lured away. We get some good Iowans in track and softball...and Minnesota kids like the better winters according to a couple track and field guys I've visited with.

Some big ol' lineman from Des Moines may want to play for us in the SEC rather than annual bridesmaid Iowa State.
