4* DT Darrion Daniels from Texas visiting for the Georgia game. Would be a huge pickup and would be great if we could team him up with Beckner.

In terms of recruiting the UGA game is probably our most important game this season.

Using Rivals because I don't know how far back 247 goes, the national champion for each year with their class ranks (# of 4 and 5 stars) for the 4 preceding years.
2013-2014: FSU - 10(11); 6(13); 2(15); 10(10)
2012-2013: Bama - 1(17); 1(17); 5(16); 1(18)
2011-2012: Bama - 1(17); 5(16); 1(18); 1(22)
2010-2011: Aub - 4(16); 19(9); 20(6); 7(13)
2009-2010: Bama - 1(18); 1(22); 10(10); 11(12)
2008-2009: UF - 3(16); 1(20); 2(21); 15(8)
2007-2008: LSU - 4(21); 7(14); 22(8); 2(15)
And their opponents in the championship game:
2013-2014: Aub - 8(11); 10(13); 7(14); 4(16)
2012-2013: ND - 20(9); 10(10); 14(10); 21(10)
2011-2012: LSU - 6(12); 5(16); 2(15); 11(13)
2010-2011: Oregon - 13(11); 32(4); 19(8); 11(12)
2009-2010: Texas - 5(14); 14(12); 5(18); 5(13)
2008-2009: OU - 6(15); 14(10); 9(14); 3(16)
2007-2008: tOSU - 15(12); 12(10); 12(10); 16(10)
I think it all depends on what the expectations and hopes are. Are all highly ranked teams going to win every year? No. Do you have to be a highly ranked team in recruiting in order to win it all? Seems so, even to just make the game. I think if the goal is a national championship, you have to have top 10 and at least consistent top 20 recruiting classes. Occasional division titles with top 20 finishes, what we have been doing can accomplish that.
Mizzou during those years:
2013: 41(1)
2012: 31(2)
2011: 48(1)
2010: 21(7) - (Note the big numbers and the good year last year)
2009: 40(2)
2008: 25(3)
2007: 33(4)
2006: 47(1)
2005: 39(1)
2004: 46(5)
2013-2014: FSU - 10(11); 6(13); 2(15); 10(10)

Great argument Reedus! Very thorough. As I would agree, if HCGP could start with highly ranked recruiting classes he would have a better shot in the biggest games. We can't just argue he coaches them up. we need to be both.

Anyone who thinks good classes is not important are just fools, Mizzou's lack of classes have kept us from being true consistent players for national prestige and champions.

I've seen how he can coach up 2 stars. I'd love to see how he coached up a team that had a dozen plus 4 and 5 stars in each class for 4 years in a row. GP could be scary good if he could make those guys even that much better.

I think it's the difference between being consistently good/competitive (which GP has done) and being consistently great (winning more than division titles).

Nice breakdown my friend.
Thats the dilemma. What do we want this program to be and become?
We can make arguments about project recruiting, under the radar diamond in the rough type of recruits but at the end of the day (hate that cliche and sorry for using it) in order to really become a national title contending program we have to bring in better recruits. Pinkel does more with less but I hope there is a hunger among the alums and fans to strive for more than what we currently have.

Seems like Mizzou has one piece but never the whole puzzle all at once.
One year they'll have a top 5 WR core in the country.
One year they'll have an excellent QB.
One year they'll have the best DE tandem in the league.
But it's never all at once.
Don't know if we'll ever be able to have the complete team.

I thought last year's was a complete team. Hell for as much credit as Auburn got, people forget the SECCG was pretty close. They just had that read option running game running to perfection.

It was better defensively than the 2007 team and slightly behind, but much more balanced, on offense.
What really stood out was the OL last season. Best OL play in recent memory, at least for me.

It was a solid team all around, but didn't have excellence in every spot.
JF and QB play in general was iffy.
We didn't have that great QB to get it done.
We also didn't have the best LB group.

Absolutely.
Justin Britt is so underrated, imo.
Guy has that flat belly big guy thing going on, makes for a tremendously athletic big guy.
Makes me shake my head even more and more at the Rams first choice in the draft. Thought there was some solid OL later in the draft.

I don't understand why so many dislike JF. He was a damn good college QB. He really played well down the stretch to win the SEC East, which is Mizzou's biggest accomplishment since the 60s.

Marquise Doherty will visit on 10/11 for the UGA game.

Anybody know the visitors list for the UGA game?

I agree with you on JF. He took a lot of crap that was unjustified. When he was QB we generally moved the ball well.

according to the PM headline
quote:
Mizzou vs. Georgia football visitor list up to 19, including confirmation on big-time 4* target @conKEYSEtador.
That is Marquise Doherty as someone mentioned earlier. Beckner and strong from east st louis( an maybe 2017 WR Jeff thomas?) are supposed to be coming. I think Darrion Daniels might be there from TX.
Other than that i don't know who makes up the 19 they mentioned. I'm sure they are counting some who have already committed. I would expect drew lock to be there and a few others.
