Wait, did we turn down Markel?

From what I have heard, yes.

Okay, now I'm seriously pissed.

What the frick of an actual frick. This is the kind of shite I've been afraid of all along..

We take a guy named Ish fricking Witter that no one wants, and turn down a perfect SEC running back that is breaking Missouri rushing records.

I want to go on a Remote Controlled level 'frick' rant right now. frick this stupid crap.

We have 2 3* RBs committed to this class. Had Markel recommitted several weeks ago, he likely would have had a place. But the process drug out, to the point that we're getting full. Plus, his grade issues and the question of his not qualifying. If I were on the staff, I'd be concerned about using one of the few remaining slots on a kid that may not qualify and have to go the juco route, maybe never make it to campus. I'd hate to see the staff holding out for guys who commit elsewhere and not filling needs, or getting commits that won't ever see campus like Antar Thompson last year.

Ish Witter is a 3* back from Tampa, the same size as Warmack who is committed to KSU at 5'8", 180. Watch his film, he's very good. Plus, it continues to help us recruit in Florida.

I think you can safely chill on this one.

I'll assume you value the Missouri rushing records more than national passing records. (Mostly kidding)

I think there's a strong belief that Smith doesn't qualify (smoke and fire on the boards). No sense in having him commit if he's not going to qualify.

And finally, as far as I can tell, the sole source for the rumor that Mizzou told Markel "no" was the Iowa 247 board.

Sleepy, bro, she is right man.

Staff is doing the right thing here. He will be a great back in some juco league next year.

I'm glad I took my phone with me on my running journey to the nearest cliff. Thanks for pulling me back in time, all. I'm walking back now, calm and collected.

That's what we're here for, Sleepy!

Seriously, we've got good RBs right now, and not losing any this year. Next season, we'll have Josey, Murphy, Hansbrough, Steward, and in 2015 we'll still have Hansbrough, Steward and Abbingdon, plus the 2 in this class. I'd have loved to have Markel, but his dragging his feet didn't leave the staff with a lot of choice, given his questionable academics.

Now that Abbingdon will be in the 2015 class, and we can pick up another RB or 2 there, I'm OK with not getting Markel. Wish it would have worked, but we'll be OK. Hopefully, it'll be a lesson to others not to wait so long.

I believe you teach people how to treat and respect you. This shows that we won't be used as a back-up for anyone, so if a recruit wants a spot at Mizzou, he should take it when it's offered and not hold off too long.

Deep breaths ST. I cringe every time we call an 18 year old kid out by name. Don't forget, Markel had that spot before Witter or Walters. He created the situation by de-committing. Like I said, I agree with the sentiment that I think the staff had a knee jerk reaction and probably actually signed too many too fast, but I really like the way the class is rounding out.

Oh, we're still 8-1. Still a good time to be a Mizzou fan my friend.

Great point semo. If we want to continue to contend, we have to stop being a back up plan for recruits. I like the fact that instead MU is going to THEIR back up plans.

The top programs don't wait for kids to commit. They make the offer, and if it's not accepted they move on. The offer isn't held open forever. If the kid comes back later, and they have space, maybe the offer is still available. Maybe it's not. That's the risk the kid runs.

I'd love to see us get to the point that we can follow that same practice.

And besides, if Markel ends up having grade issues, and has to go the juco route, perhaps he can come into the class of 2016 if he really wants to play at Mizzou.

It sure does seem to be that case this year.

I think a good part of that was other coaches coming in and pointing to the hot seat GP was on.

Markel Smith, Andy Bauer, Brian Wallace, Roderrick Johnson, Raymond Wingo.

Bauer made it back, Smith didn't.

Wingo seems to be playing this out. Johnson seems to be enamored with FLSt and Bama. We may not turn out to be a viable backup plan.

If Roderick hasn't already committed to Bama, it's likely he doesn't have an offer anymore. I think their class is done, and they're on to 2015. I'll find out...

Edit - According to their recruiting thread, they already have 7 OL commits in this class. I'd say this kid isn't going there. More likely to FSU.

Bama may still take a RB, or more DL. They're at 22 right now.

the tigers are in pretty good shape at the RB position... I think the two Florida kids are going be pretty darn good, plus Chase in the fold already for next years' class. I totally agree with semo and others... would love to see the program get to the point where when kids get an offer...there needs to be some urgency in accepting it or missing out. I like the late push the Tigers are making on some high profile recruits though and agree 2015 could be huge..

just for the folks who like numbers: walters' the lead back on the #16 national and #3 state ranked team that is undefeated and play in a good league over on the gulf side of the state. In 9 games he has: 1,324 rushing yards, 8.38 per carry and 10 td's... also averaging over 17ypc receiving... I hope this kid sticks with the Tigers.. I think he's a good one.

Walters has me very excited. Ol' Ish Witters does not in any way shape or form have me excited.
