I feel really damn good about next season. I think we will have the best qb in the SEC. I also think we beat A&M at home before we face Auburn.

We couldn't ask for a better setup than next year. LSU and Bama will be heavily dependent on their run games, and run defense will be by far our strongest asset. Auburn at home is huge, the rest of the SEC will be down. Also, SEC East match ups against Kentucky and Vandy are laughable now that Franklin looks to be gone.
I expect us to be improved at every positional group for 2014.

Our defense is going to be salty, for sure.

We just need Dak to steal a laptop and assault a woman and we will have it on lock.
Posted on 1/7/14 at 3:43 pm to Eric Nies Grind Time
We need a WR or two from UGA or Florida to do that and transfer.

Yeah, I'm afraid that if Dak stole a laptop or assaulted a woman he would transfer and win a natty for Auburn.

Like I said the West next year is going to be really interesting with the QB vacuum and every team transitioning some pieces on offense and defense.

Is there even a clear front runner for QB at Bama? Are they banking on Coker transferring?
Posted on 1/7/14 at 5:48 pm to weedGOKU666
Definitely counting on Coker. They're going to rely heavily on Henry to transition whomever gets the job.

If there was a year for MSU to make a little noise we look to be set up with one of our best teams in a long time and the SEC as a whole looks to be down
That being said we are MSU so who knows

OUR LUCK: The next Cam Newton will leave JUCO for Arkansas, JFF will stay another year, we'll lose the egg bowl at VHS and Alabama / LSU will beat us by a combined 40 points.

Perspective from a recruit's dad
The quote is a question asked by a MSU fan, and the rest is the response from the recruit's dad.
but Merlin's can't recruit
quote:
"While we have you here, I was curious if you could tell us what Coach Mullen is like during the recruiting process, and what our sales pitch seems to center around?"
I was very pleasantly surprised by his demeanor and personality. I had heard all the rumors about him from the competition. He is none of those. Very personable, engaging and actually makes eye contact and listens when you talk. We had a 3 hour supper @ our house with him and thouroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I haven't met a better recruiter. He can lasso anyone he targets. And he struck me as young. Thats only remarkable to me b/c I'm apparently getting old and don't realize it.
My 1st impression during the "sales pitch" was the Seal football complex. Incredibly impressive and second to none. Every fan needs to see it. And the program sells itself: full stadium, wall to wall tailgating, friendly down to earth fans and a team that obviously enjoys what its doing. The players' demeanor was important to me, as in, do they like it here. They love it and play like it. I don't think the fans realize yet just how good the dogs will be for the foreseeable future. They need to start printing those final 4 pennants now. This team can do it.

A quote from some anonymous dad doesn't change the fact that we are currently last in the SEC and around 40 nationally.

Mullen just doesn't have universal appeal IMO. Some people are going to love him -- others not so much. That said, it seems he's getting better at connecting with a greater percentage of people in the south(at least, I'm no longer hearing recruiting horror stories like early on).
Hard to get too wound up on recruiting right now if we actually end up being as good next year as we think we could be. I'll be the first to admit that I've been schizo on this one at times though.
Projected starting 22: 1 composite 5*, 3 composite 4*s, 15 composite 3*s, 3 composite 2*s. The guys that I question us taking(mostly because we take them early when they have no other legit options) seem to be the ones to turn into total badasses though, so what do I know? Looks like Dez Harris will be the next one -- and I dare say Clayborn has already proven me wrong. I really expect him to start in Gabe's spot as a true soph...

Al, you are always good for a nice laugh. I ask myself, " will he ever learn?" About 20 times a month. I'm gonna stop though. I see its impossible...
