WG, have you ever flamed or trolled on the SEC Rant?
I have made "troll" threads that are at last somewhat humerous, yes. The most recent one was 4 months ago. One started per year on average.
I'll save you the trouble chicken. I just looked through the last 5 pages of my post history of threads started on the SECR, spanning October/15 to July of 2012 (so 3 years and 3 months) and I count 3.5 "troll" threads. And that might even be a stretch.
Another thing to note here chicken, is that even when I do go outside my normal habits and poke fun like that, at least I can say the ratio of my good, logic based, football type posts far FAR outweigh the others. Compared to some people who probably haven't made an insightful post ever.

No, but if you'd go back and read you'd clearly see that I said nothing of the sort. But thanks for putting words in my mouth...

Give me the reins. I'll corral these crazy bastards.

As your attorney, WG, I advise you not to answer that on the grounds that you may incriminate yourself.
Chicken, it seems like you could assign a whole troop of admins to tRant that would simply delete the obvious troll threads - unapologetically. I think if posters saw that it just isn't worth the effort to make a thread that would get whacked within seconds, they just may improve their post quality.
It would take a lot of admins constantly monitoring the board, and whacking indiscriminately, but I bet quality would improve a bit. I don't even think you would have to ban people, just show what types of threads are worthy of staying on the board by whacking the trash more.

Now suddenly you dislike the trolling and flaming on tRant!!!
Pardon me...suddenly? People have been complaining about the trolling for years.
If there was a genie who would grant either/or:
a)zero trolling whatsoever. Dissenting opinions welcome of course, but no flames/trolls/grinds/sails/whathaveyou
b)continue on as is
I would pick option A in a heartbeat without thinking twice. If I want to hear stupid people spout about things that have nothing to do with football or based on any kind of facts I'd go read espn forums or the AJC comment section.

Wholeheartedly agree with this 100%.
I and others aren't necessarily calling for mass bannings and getting rid of half the user base. That'd be insane. Just simply deleting the shite threads that pop up everyday would go a long way.

To me it seems it's a rush to be the first poster with the "super witty" reply to the OP. Plus, we're not getting any younger while the posters are...

I do very little myself but it's not the fun and lighthearted troll attempts that make the board bad at times. It's the flaming, personal attacks, and hateful posts that trigger the downfall of page 1 quality.
But personally I think the mods have done a better job of anchoring and deleting. Quicker anchors would be nice sometimes.
If you make the rant boring and remove the ability to have some good natured fun, it will lose popularity as well.
Perhaps empowering some fan posters with the ability to anchor threads or delete hateful posts?

Chicken I think we would all calm down if you bring back the Rays logo and add a TB Bucs logo

Yep.
I would also recommend adding more terms to the profanity filter:
Butthurt, butt-hurt, "butt hurt"
"you mad"
obsessed, obsession
delusional
melt, melting
...if I never see these words again, it'll be too soon.

Auto censor
Instead of "you butthurt?" it can be changed "you think I'm pretty?"
Melt = penis.
Think about it... "lol penisdown"
Those words would be gone in a weekend.

good God yes. I swear people hear a term, think they're "supposed" to use it to be cool, then run it into the ground.
-Can't believe we lost yesterday.
STILL MELTING. MELT DAY 2 LOL

somewhat. What a lot of boards do is leave it up, locked and a stern message from the admin as to why the thread is not kosher. When you delete everything quickly, no one knows it was there in the first place, so they dont know any better.
I said it before, just a highly visible admin authority would go a long way

"Response thread"
Especially when it's someone from a fanbase crying about someone responding to their shitty non-stop trolling.

Yup.
That's what I recall. When Ice Cold or Rummy would "serve notice" it made a difference.

Except that I think it's generally the same posters starting the shitty threads. Once they get the idea that no one is even going to see their shitty threads, they may stop.
Ultimately, though, it's up to the individual posters to stop responding to the more egregious flame posts. This is the hardest, because you can't really enforce it, it's just people have to grow up and learn to ignore bullshite.
Oh, and CNB, "Big Bro"/"Little Bro" could go also away and I wouldn't be upset.
But just like we let State keep their artificial noisemakers, I would allow only MSU fans to post "Grind"/"Grinded".

Case in point, I thought Bowl's "troll" thread before the Kentucky game about the Blue Fugates was hilarious. It's pretty good natured and creative. I don't think people have much issue with stuff like that. At least I didn't.
But when you have some regular posters (it's definitely not all alters) who can't even contribute to a discussion because they have to post some dumb shite/attack certain posters and are hijacking what would be decent threads then it's a bit much. Especially since it's happening all of the time.
It seems like as of late, while most of us can agree the offseason will always be an unmitigated shitshow (and rightfully so), there's been a lot of that carry over into the season.
