The SECrant is sick and dying. Has been for a while.

The rant when I joined was a great place for all fanbases in the conference to talk about their games that week. Football talk was the vast majority of post (I lurked for a while before I joined in). Arguments on matchups or who the best QB/RB/DEf was. Could the Oline dominate the opposing Dline. Trolling was very rare and not over the top.
Then Cam and ATPB came on the to scene. ATPB was linked on every team board on every site there is in the conference and across the country. shite heads from all over decided to make an account and come troll Aub/ Bama or anyone else they could fined. The Admins did what every business owner would do. Open the doors wide and let everyone in. Hell page hits are money. People didn't care about the quality of the board. They just were linked here and started posting. Why did they care?
But this business strategy fataly wounded the Rant. Solid discussion in a thread is very rare and when a non troll/ flame thread is posted it is on the 2nd page in no time. Is there any way the old rant comes back? Do the admins want it back? Is the product going to shite worth the money? Idk.

Join all of the team boards and talk sports there. That's what I did.

Perhaps we need a serious SEC discussion forum, separate from the SEC Rant...but to think that the SEC Rant was ever some great portal of SEC sports discussion seems off target...

No, as it was not rare
But posters are not really as scared of bans anymore so the trolling is slightly more prolific

I think it is if used correctly. This is just a common issue of anything that gains popularity IMO. The Rant seems "worse" to older users due to more traffic but on the flipside Team Boards are much better than when I got in.

This is my take as well.
I seem to recall Rummy and Ice Cold making their presence known on occasion.
There doesn't appear to be a sheriff in Rock Ridge at the moment so it's back to Wild West.

A serious alter lock down would be beneficial as well. The move to allow gmail/yahoo/etc. accounts also led to the ridiculous ness of the bad threads.
Yes I guess my view of the "glory days" is skewed but it was no where close to this.

How would you handle a new SEC forum with expectations of serious troll/flame free discussion? I would think you would have to be incredibly selective about who is allowed to post on that forum? You'd almost have to manage that forum like a team board which would require admin permission to post there, right?
Otherwise, if you opened the gates for everyone to post on a new and "serious" SEC forum, it would turn into tRant 2.0 within hours...perhaps minutes.

It literally says who you are replying to. You don't have to type their name every time you quote them.

The board has always had its share of trash talk, but it has gotten out of hand lately. It used to be that decent posts devolved into trash-talk, as it does with the internet.
But not it's to the point that the vast majority of the posts started are meant to troll other fans. It's insufferable.
