Football in 3D

I am perpetually shopping for a new TV. I've currently got a 52" Sony LCD that I've had since the summer of 2008. I've watched prices fall to the point that I can now afford something in the 65" to 70" range.
I've noticed that once you get into that size of a TV, it's hard not to get 3D if you want to buy anything other than the base model.
Do any of you watch football (or anything else) in 3D? How is it? It seems like it would be weird to have a few friends over, drink some beer, and wear those stupid glasses. I know I could disable 3D, but then I'd feel like I'd wasted money.

You might as well get it if it's not much more

The SEC makes TV's now?
Hmm.

I've watched it.
It's kinda like the first time you get with a hooker.
The first time is awesome then afterward you wonder why you paid all that money for something that makes you sick the more you mess with it.

It looks fantastic, but they use different camera angles to show off the 3D effect so you don't get as good a feel for what's going on, IMO. Also, don't buy LCD. Get LED or plasma.

Because there's only one live game per week, you will watch pretty much all games in regular HD. Glasses are cheaper now than they used to be. But you're not going to be sitting down with your 3D glasses on every time you watch football. There's just not much available.
Movies are pretty cool. I have Xfinity On Demand, which has 3D movies for purchase. HBO and Starz On Demand also has 3D movies for free(which I have in my cable package). But I would say I actually utilize 3D about once every 3-4 weeks.
I wouldn't pay extra for it... but it's nice to have.

Thanks, guys. I didn't realize ESPN was only doing one game a week. The having to wear glasses aspect of 3D seemed kind of anti-social to me when you've invited people over to watch the game.
When I finally buy something, it is going to be a Samsung LED.

"LED" is LCD. LED is just how the LCD is backlit. Almost all lower priced LED backlit TVs aren't as good as a standard LCD because they are edge-lit instead of having an entire panel of LEDs. They will generally last longer though.

I am using the LG Cinema Smart 3D tv. It will convert 2D to 3D on the fly, which means everything you watch is in 3D. If you're looking for a new TV, I suggest buying it.

I work somewhat in the electronics business or at least I buy them for my business direct from the manufactures and go to all the big events CES, CEDIA, etc... 3D is over, Look for them to not even really market it at all next year. You are going to see less Blu Rays and channels with it also. 4k is the new thing as well as more connectivity. if your current TV is fine, wait
We really need a SECr OT

I bought a 65" with a warranty, light engine out, so they replaced my 65" with a 70" , when they get that size you can't really tell the difference, unless you went maybe 80" or 90". I would go with the 3D is the price is similar.

I have one and love it. However, I have Cox and they don't have ESPN 3D. I would love to have it. Apparently they show all kind of cool events and like someone else said, one of the bigger college games of the week

I find this feature to not work at all on the TVs I've seen it on. The best 3D effects you'll see are when something is shot entirely in 3D

I am looking for local dimming LED, but it's hard to get to that level of detail on Samsung's website.

I am pretty sure they dont have a full back lit, like they used to. they do have a local diming type thing on the 8000 and 9000 at least.

Yeah, you are correct on the 2D to 3D conversion. The one I have works really well though, on most things. You don't get pop outs but it adds in depth. The problem is that there isn't much 3D content to chose from. There are only so many animated movies you can watch. There are a number of video games that support 3D though. 4K won't become main stream for a long time. All programs are broadcasted in 720p or 1080i; 1080p isn't used for bandwidth reasons. The next jump is 1440p and currently only PC gamers have use for that resolution.

Hey, my post has been moved to the Help Board. I didn't realize there was a help board!

There are few models out this year, next year every major manufacture will have at least one model in tv and projector. Media is coming along as we'll, if the US could catch up. All the major a/v receivers support 4k now. It was heavy at Ces this year and I fully expect to be the main focal point this year along with oled.
