The same thing happened to the private school my kids attended. They went from Terrible to kicking people's butts in one year.
Every private school recruits to a degree. The older ones just know how to cheat within the rules.

Is it pretty certain that Bell would leave his current HC position to be the OC at Florida? I know y'all could match the pay with ease, and the national exposure would be better as the OC of UF. Some people become attached to the HC title though.

The pay at UF would dwarf what he makes at JU. It's a non-scholarship school. I don't even know how they can afford to field a team. It's not from tickets.
I think he would take the job. He loves UF and knows he'd be in line for the HC job when/if Boom left for whatever reason assuming his offense was productive and recruiting was going well.

Anyway, his team at JU looks to be offensively geared. I think he could be worth a chance. He knows the culture at UF, still has ties to HS coaches in FL, and he'd be cheap. With the way UF's D plays, y'all don't need a spectacular offense...25-30ppg would get you to Atlanta probably

He makes 500k annually at JU.

Wow...that's much more than I thought they could afford. JU must have some big-time private donors

Yeah I was shocked when I heard that as well.

Wow. No wonder why Bell has not moved on.

What's the source of the 500k? I know the Kerwin lovers on the Gator boards keep pushing that number, but I kind of doubt it's true.
I remember a 200K number being posted 2 years ago, and that's a lot more believable.
500K would be more then quite a few FBS coaches, and I highly doubt JU can afford that.

It is 100% fact from someone that is tight with Kerwin and who went to UF with him.

I just heard a similar figure from my future FIL...pretty sure he doesn't know what a message board is
He has some decent ties to people who would know. It's a crazy figure for the HC of a non-scholly FCS program

Yeah, I think it's more likely that those guys are wrong than a school that can't even give out scholarships is dropping more money on their HC than FBS schools.

Is that 500k all salary or does it include all the endorsements, TV shows and advertising pay days?
That's a lot of money for JU to shell out. Many of their grads take their cash back to the great white north.

As HC he would be expected to make appearances and any media outlet that televises/broadcasts their games. 500k is light among HC salaries these days in the FBS...but in FCS it is way up there.
If he changes jobs...he would face the very patient fanbase of UF for the same or slightly less $$ who would give him benefit of the doubt early on and blame the HC for every loss....but the honeymoon would wear off and its ugly if your school hero goes down in flames...careful what you wish for.
