I don’t understand why some don’t like Norvell. His offenses are fast and vertical. It’s the most entertaining offense of any HC being considered. Also, it’s easier to put a defensive staff together UF than it is Memphis. Also defensive talent is way better in Florida and at UF. I’m a big fan of Norvell.
I get the hesitation some have with him, but from a pure offensive standpoint, of the candidates he is probably most in-line with what UF fans want.
My personal preference is getting the younger coach with HC experience. Frost is my #1, but I'd rather get Norvell than someone like Strong.

Frost does not deny UF rumors during interview on 96.9 the game, says he is focusing on UCF but there will be a time to think about future

Why is Norvell similar to Butch Jones? Makes no sense.
Because he is a good recruiter who took over a smaller program that someone already turned around for him. He needs to turn a program around on his on before getting a top job like UF.

Still not really the same from a systematic standpoint, but okay.

more black kids coming to UF is on them. UF is hard as hell to get into, but not as hard if you're black. as far as racism goes, charlie did say he wasn't hired at UF because he was black. that's big coming from strong. if it was some silly sjw i wouldn't pay attention, but charlie said it and i'll go with it.
Of course he didn't get the job because he was black. There was NO OTHER REASON. He was CLEARLY the best guy for the job but they gave it to a guy that never coached a damn day in his life. Talk about smack in the face.
Is UF harder to get into than Vandy? Why is Vandy attracting black kids but UF can't? You can put your head in the sand if you like but UF has lost a lot of it's diversity. Low black enrollment, Low native Indian, low India, European, Pacific islander, enrollment. Very low Hispanic teachers as well as other ethnicity. What does any of this have to do with football? Who knows but what I do know is that UF, just like many of you in this forum, won't even consider a black coach. A couple even said they would root for UF to lose every game if one was hired. Wow.

So...it's clearly racism? Florida is a pretty liberal university, our current HC is black.
Strong, too, was our interim HC.
In 2009 Meyer was still the HC and Strong went to Louisville.
Muschamp was a massive failure, but Strong was at Louisville and an HC -- we took a chance on an assistant instead of going after an HC...not too crazy.
Race literally has nothing to do with it, unless there is actually some form of evidence.
Oh, and our current HC is black.

IMO Willie Taggart would kill it here. He's killing it at Oregon and he's already turning them around. I do remember hearing rumblings that one reason why Strong wasn't considered was his interracial marriage

i wanted charlie as hc after meyer left fwiw. uf was one of the first southern colleges to integrate. it has given more degrees to blacks than just about any other non-hbcu school in the country.

Shannon is probably not going to get the HC job unless there is a miracle in the work, but --
I like what he's saying. I like his personality, I know he can recruit the state and when he says these things it kind of raises my eyebrows. When has any coach out of the last two we've had ever said something like that?
quote:
“Whichever one executed the plan for what is their strength, that’s the one that we went with,” Shannon said. “Malik did a great job, and we went to his strength of what he can do. The things that he can do brings a lot to the table.”

Color shouldn't matter...the large majority of high school and college football players are black. Unfortunately it has been a slow process to hire well qualified black coaches at both levels.
There will be excellent black coaches who have learned the complete nuances of football...the strategy involved in field position, creating mismatches, down and distance calls, clock management etc etc. There will also be average black coaches that haven't grasp a lot of concepts. Great coaches have devoted a lot of time studying the offensive/defensive minds of past great coaches. The best coaches are usually driven to be the best and will learn at seminars and coaching clinics. The same for white coaches...you get what you put in.
Our best candidate will be someone who is driven and hates to lose because they are super competitive. They will have been at several programs learning from others and have a sense of salesmanship, be personable and outgoing to be able to recruit at the highest level. UF may sell itself...but we compete with Bama, the girls school, UGA and others for top recruits....so we need a bonafide recruiter who can relate to high school kids. A real closer who will get their signatures.
I would not mind Shannon being our HC if he shows he can lead this program for the next 4 games and have recruiting at a fever pitch. He doesn't have to necessarily win all four games...but 3 out of 4 and we see an uptick big time in energy, enthusiasm and player morale changes. The only caveat is hiring the right OC to help steer the battleship. Shannon has experience as HC at a major school and has been a DC/LB coach quite a while. This years defense is ranked high in several stats in the SEC and the NCAA with a very young back seven. A big advantage in hiring Shannon is a lot of $$$ can be saved in buyouts. $$$ that can be spent on football, volleyball, baseball, softball, track & field, soccer, tennis, swimming and all the sports that depend a lot on football $$$.
I can tell that Stricklin is very conscious of finances and keeps sharp eye on the bottom line...we are getting ready to pay Muschamp 1.5 million and now with buyout of Mac....it starts to add up quickly. Pay a new HC 4 mil and a buyout of 2-5 mil added? Its easy to see that having a candidate with a low buyout is appealing if they are the right fit.
I also like Scott Frost and his energy level.

Skin color doesn’t matter when it comes to our head coach . If anything I would prefer a guy with black skin over white because it could help in recruiting.

Novell's offense looks great and scores so fast.

His defense looks like diggity dogshit so far, though. I'm watching the game, too.
