Isn’t that a freebie for everyone? I may be confused on how that works.

What does an extra year of eligibility mean?
Traditionally, a student-athlete has 5 years to play 4 years of their sport. An extra year means a current college student-athlete would have 6 years to play their 4 years. This means, NCAA student-athletes can compete in all or a portion of the 2020-21 season, but it won’t be counted against their years of eligibility depending on their division level specific eligibility rules.
For example, a D1 freshman athlete, whether they compete in the 2020-21 competition season or not, is eligible for an extra year of competition. Starting their sophomore year, this athlete competes in 100% of the season through senior year. After their senior season, this athlete’s eligibility count is 3 years and they decide to enroll as a fifth-year senior to compete in their fourth collegiate season. Upon the completion of their fourth competition season, this athlete has the option to compete for one final season, a fifth year, because the NCAA D1 had granted all 2020-21 athletes an extra year of eligibility. If this athlete returns for a fifth year, they will have been a member of the team and eligible to receive financial aid for six year, because their first year of competition didn’t count against their years eligibility.

Mullen will lose the fan base if he continues to start Emory. EJ has had his opportunity, Mullen doesn’t owe him anything.

I’m willing to give Wmory a mulligan since it was his first start ever. Hopefully, he gets his head right for USF. Otherwise…. everyone will know how this will go.

Yeah Emory only got 1 start. Even I don’t mind him starting the next two. Uf ain’t beating Alabama anyways.

Yeah he had 1 start but he had some extremely careless throws against FAU. Im cool having him start against USF, but if he makes those types of throws and shows no confidence again, we need to move on to develop AR.

AR15 should not have his first start be against Alabama

While tge questions about QB are warranted... can we talked about some good thongs?
1. The Oline. Yes it was FAU. But boy did they generate a push up front which is something we've been lacking since that 2012 team.
2. RB depth. We've got 4 guys to really run the rock. Hopefully we get to see Bowman more this week.
3. Defense. Again it was FAU. but the front play excellently. Had a lot of penalties extend drives in the secondary, but outside of one play it thought that played fine as well.

I was prepared to have to defend Emory all offseason to the people that always want the backup to play no matter what. But after that FAU game I just can't.
The problems Emory has aren't the type of things that get ironed out quickly. The throwing the ball in the dirt has been a trait of his since I watched his high school sophomore tape and it hasn't improved. He has trouble scanning the field and making reads, but thankfully with his speed he really only has to make a couple reads before scrambling. He never really seems to have good touch on his passes. He's got a howitzer arm like Franks where he will either hit the receiver and blast his hands off, or miss completely. I think best case scenario he settles down and can move the offense at an above average to good level. He will be better than Fitzgerald and better than Franks, but he will not put the team on his back and drag them to victory like Trask did. If the team ever finds themselves in a hole and has to go one dimensional passing to catch back up, I don't think he can do it. If he can't scramble, his effectiveness falls off tremendously.
He's got a lot to work on at the moment. SP+ gave is about a 25% chance of beating Alabama Saturday morning, but at this point that is extremely optimistic.

Agreed 100%. Starting a QB for the first time ever against Bama is asking for a catastrophe in terms of a hit to a QBs confidence.

So if Emory throws 2-3 boneheaded interceptions against USF, we should just roll with him against Bama?

100% yes. In a worst case scenario, you start EJ against Bama, and if things go terribly, you start Richardson against Tennessee.

It’s kind of a shitty thing to do but you set AR with the best chance to be successful which means you wait to start him against UT.

One games not going to make or break AR’s career. Mullen needs to go with the QB that gives us the best chance to win. If Jones has another poor showing against USF and then starts against Bama, Mullen’s pretty much mailing in that game. The best QB needs to start whether that’s EJ or AR.

Yeah, it’ll have to be 21-0 Bama for Mullen to make a change. And then, it’ll just be AR going through the motions with dive plays and options to keep from throwing the ball and just ending the game.
Any kind of pass plays that end in interceptions or pick sixes will ultimately kill any confidence AR has against Bama.
Come Tenn, it should be considered rebuilding. Which sucks because there’s some good WRs and RBs that worked too hard for this BS.

I’m not talking about his career. I’m talking about saving the season. If AR goes out and gets crushed vs Bama you possibly lose the team believing in him for the rest of the year. If you trot him out after the Bama game against some cupcakes then you can build some confidence and momentum before you roll into the WLOCP. But this is just my opinion.

Jones handled some thorny questions like a veteran in his postgame press conference.
"I don't really feel that good about it, honestly," Jones said of his performance afterward. "I definitely have to play better and just overall, we have to play better. We just have to get back in the lab. I feel like I still made a lot of mistakes early in the game that you probably couldn't see. I missed too many throws that I never do. It's just getting more comfortable, just being out there actually being the starter."

Then again USF just lost 45-0 to NC state so really if i see great things out of EJ its for a reason. if he continues to struggle, then there is noooooooo excuse.

EJ telegraphs his throws too much, when hes getting that swing pass or wr screen (which was 80% of his throws) he takes forever to get the ball out of his hands from the start of the throwing motion.
There were several passed against FAU that if it was alabama on the other side of the ball, they would of been picked off and maybe run back/
alot to clean up in two weeks. but mullen should have plenty of "coachable film" to go over with the boys.

AR vs Baja is fine. Just tell him going in it could get ugly. These kids aren’t idiots. Let him loose and see what happens. He is confident as heck I highly doubt one game destroys his swagger.
