I was hopeful that this team could get to 8-4 there is no way of that happening will be very lucky to get to 6-6

We played our bowl game already the Utah game was our bowl game!!!

If you have a dual threat QB. Then Florida's defense will make you seem like a 5* QB.

Napier needs to really take this off week and look at the defense and have some heart to heart talks with some players and coaches!!!
Because whatever Toney is doing is not working and if he can not fix it then we need someone who can!!!

Toney

i question if he's the reason for our DB class so far....

if he is, kind of hard to justify cutting him if you want to keep the class.

Our defense gets worse every game. Either we are too predictable in our schemes/formations or we have too many players who:

1. Have no business at Florida.
2. Have no business in the SEC.
3. Have no business in Division 1 as a whole.

Unfortunately, it’s a combination of all of it. We have the worst 3rd down defense in college football at any level; we have to, and you can’t convince me otherwise. How many times do we have to watch this defense give up 1st downs on 3rd and 6+??? And while I appreciate Miller’s leadership, it’s too late to decide to suck less in the 4th qtr. Billy is going to have to fire some of his friends and cut some of the dead weight at the end of this season if he intends to stay at Florida more than 2 years. And before anyone starts calling me a negaGator; yes I know, most of the piss poor defense is still on Mullen and Grantham’s sorry asses for not giving two shits about recruiting.

But…if the current staff was worth their salt, we wouldn’t be taking the shitty arse angles we take. Some of the angles are so bad it’s hard not to think it’s on purpose. None of our DBs are ever in position, they don’t get their heads around, we consistently give 8-10yd cushions, we don’t take away the middle of the field and make QBs go back shoulder or work the sidelines, we don’t tackle worth shite, we still have guys out of position which leads to broken plays, and some of these guys just flat out take plays off. Add to the mix that our zone coverage is too loose, we don’t try to get pressure on 3rd down, and the coaches are too scared to press and we are where we are. The film doesn’t lie.

Our offense is bipolar at best, and the playcalling is either good or head scratchingly dumb as shite - there is no in between. The screens don’t work and we have a hard on for running it up the middle for two yards. GET THE MF ATHLETES IN THE BACKFIELD TO THE EDGE AND LET THEM DO WHAT THEY DO. If nothing else you’ll wear the defense down and set yourself up. And how many times is AR going to miss a touch pass before he figures out you don’t have to throw it 90mph to a WR that’s 5 yds away?

It’s frustrating as hell to watch us be so mediocre week in and week out. It’s even more frustrating that our coaches are still doing the same shite every week and expecting a different result. We are the worst team in the East besides Vanderbilt, and if we play to our competition’s level like we do every damn game we may finish last.

There was too much mediocrity in the last regime and the new regime hasn’t moved the needle enough. I’m by no means calling for Napiers job and I’m more than willing to give him another year or two to get the right pieces in place and figure it out, but this staff better get it together in a hurry. If we look like this next year that seat will heat up quick.

To add insult to injury, this referee crew could not have been a bigger bunch of jackass idiots. I don’t know who in our athletic department didn’t donate to their GoFund Me or forgot to pay them pre-game, but LSU was getting an extra yard spot on quite a few close plays, and I lost count of the obvious holding/PI no-calls there were. In the end, it was irrelevant, but how long are SEC officiating crews going to suck arse before anything is done?

Bottom line tonight is we made a bad LSU look really good, we were undisciplined and shot ourselves in the foot multiple times, and worst of all Brian Kelly was a better coach than Napier tonight. And it pains me to say that because he is such a personalitiless whiny pandering bitch.

Seems that’s our lot in the SEC these days… making bad LSU teams look good.

Glad I had a gig tonight and didn’t have to watch this crap for another year.

Ditto here. While we looked terrible on D I'm just not that upset about this season. Now if we lose to USC or Candy? That'll be a problem.

The players on defense are just so bad right now. Hard to really blame the coaches. Mediocre dl, only one real lb, mediocre safeties and nickels. Just really tough right now.

‘23-‘24 should tell us what need to know. Especially if this class holds and the have significant playing time next year.

We’re all dumbfounded by how bad this defensive unit is playing. We have some proven coaches on that side of the ball, 2 with DC experience and 1 who’s one of the best DB coaches n the Nation.

I just find it hard to believe these guys can’t get these players to play sound ball.
I’m hoping the bye week answers some questions, maybe we get some more young guys to start vs UGA.
Wilson n James need to start like now.

I'm for starting anybody not named
Dean
Torrance or
Burney

I mean is there any leaders on this team that are holding players accountable no one on this team has been a vocal leader or calling a team meeting to try to hold players accountable and fix some of the problems. Because for sure or DC is Dumbfounded and can't fix it.

I have never seen a defense get this much worse during the season other then these last 2 seasons of Florida. It's completely ridiculous how bad the schemes are and how bad the tackling has been all season and how bad we are on 3rd down if it's 3rd and 40 the other team is putting in that magical play to be able to get a first down or Toney will hand them a magical scheme that give them the perfect play call for the qb to take off running and our grease defense will let him break 8 tackles to get a first down.

Looking at some of ULs games with Toney as DC, in 2020 they played AT Iowa State, held their QB to his worst game of the season, dude was like 16-35 for 145 or so with some picks. The same QB had over 300 yards vs Texas and OU that yr and then beat Oregon in their Bowl game. 9-3 so not like it’s a scrub team.
Last season he held ApSt to 2 of their worst games. They beat A&M this season

Doing this with UL talent, I just find it hard to believe it’s all him and his scheme.
Defense was bad last season, add loses of Moon, Diabate, Carter, hopper and Elam in the secondary and you get what we got now. Very few passrushers and Guys like Dean/Torrence with new inexperienced players all learning a new scheme.

UL had a top scoring defense last yr. So again, even in the Sun Belt, if the scheme was shite, shouldn’t it have been exposed instead of being one of the if not the best in the Conf?

We are all dumbfounded, true
We have proven coaches, questionable at this point
We have players that are not playing to an SEC or D1 level for that matter, true
We continue to make the same mistakes with the same players every week without significant changes being made. true

131st in D1 on 3rd down stops, this defense is historically bad. I don't remember a Gator defense this bad in my 66 years of being a Gator.

I'll say 7-5 with remaining wins against USCe and Vandy. Vandy is 104th in total offense and 129th in total defense. They are really, really bad. I think we can pull out a win against USCe at home to break what will be a 3 game losing streak.

Gatorsim

I would not put a W next to any team left on this schedule.

Because this defense is going to make any dual threat qb look like a Heisman Trophy candidate.

That includes USCe and Vandy both have dual threat qb's. Look how bad USF is and they should have won the game against Florida.

For sure Uga, going to 8T4, and FSU are L's.

USCe and Vandy are toss ups
If they can win those 2 games.
That would put us at 6-6 probably playing UCF again in a bowl game somewhere in Florida possibly the Gasparilla bowl again.
