Napier needs a passing game coordinator who can call plays.

Jeff Scott? Someone else?

That was as much of a shitshow of a win as possible.

Defense looked okay. They won the game for us.

The offense, however

This game feels like the morning after you wake up and realize you slayed the dragon from the bar. You just want to forget about it, move on, and hope that you find the princess next week.

Hopefully, this pathetic showing was because Rob Sale has something good planned for next week. If Napier thought last week was a must win, the next two are even bigger “must-wins”.

Going to South Carolina anything less than 5-1 won’t work.

Guess this game was about working on field goals and trying to execute vertical passes. Napier, if you're reading this, just tell us that was the plan so we can rest assured. Because we're worrying again man.

Anyways, we better regain that edge we had because Kentucky is looking like a definite loss. I don't see defense bailing out a lackluster offense all game.

I think this was a terrible performance from a team with a big win last week and it looked like they played the whole game like they played the whole second half of the Tennessee game.
It was very ugly at times and this O-line and the play calling was terrible tonight. If they were playing a little better team probably would have gotten beat.

Hopefully they forget this game and performance ever happened. Next week is a very big game for Napier on the road. Napier has only won 1 road game in at Florida. losing 3 in a row to Kentucky in football unless you are named Vanderbilt is unacceptable

Ryan Grubb is Washington's OC.

He's been with Deboer at every stop (Sioux Falls to Fresno to UW).

I hope Napier considers hiring him next year if the 247 rumors of Napier bringing in an OC are true.

Apparently we only had 10 players on the field for special teams for 2 of Charlotte's kicks. How does that happen a 2nd week?

Napier needs to hire a full time ST coach and make that a priority. Killed us vs Utah week 1.

Defense played pretty well last night, despite giving up some runs to J Jones at times.

Mobile qbs can be tough for many defenses, so I am not too worried about that.

I am worried that we lost the turnover battle to Charlotte.

Defense is improving but needs to improve in creating turnovers moving forward.

I hope this bad performance will get them refocused and ready to play on the road

It seems every week there is something to work on but Napier definitely needs to hire a Special teams coach. I need to rewatch the game but I believe on 2 different punts there where only 10 players on the field.
Definitely the worst performance of the year but I'll give them a mulligan it was Charlotte they have some starters out and a very young team. All excuses I understand that but the game was never in jeopardy and the defense pretty much had the game in control. But as a leader and a senior Murtz has to get in these guys grill and get them to step up 1 for 9 on third down against Charlotte is unacceptable. The offense needs to come out Saturday ready to take it to Kentucky's D.

Red zone play calling is poor, it almost looks like Napier is playing for a field goal, IMO way too conservative. We never attack the endzone, just run up the middle and throw swing passed. The one time we did throw to the end zone Saturday night we scored a TD.
You can beat UNCC kicking 5 field goals but won't beat many SEC teams doing it.

After letting it settle in and trying to be rational:

I have to agree with one of the podcasters in that success with this team will not be linear. We have to take the good with the bad and shouldn't move the goal post because of the little success we've seen so far this year.

Coming off the Tennessee high, this team last year would probably have lost to Charlotte (or struggled mightily like they did against USF). Also, I think that the coaches are learning on the job just like the players are. Not the way it should be, but unfortunately they are. We can only hope Napier develops a killer instinct or get an OC who has one.

From the 4 games we've seen so far we know that:
-defense is better than prior years
-QB play itself is better than last year
-We may have found a kicker
-Offense and ST as a whole still a huge work in progress (Offense definitely needs some more playmakers, and at times a better scheme)

Kentucky is the next litmus test for the program. I'd be more confident if it was a home game because this team has only a little room for error.

It’s gonna be somebody he knows

Dont expect a total scheme redo. It’s gonna be his offense, just a different playcaller if it happens imo

I don’t see Billy letting it go tbh

That would suck. With TX and OK coming in and no SEC East protection that 90% of passes being in a small box mess won't cut it to make 12 team playoffs.

It's a shame, there are some pretty good passing game experts hanging around Gainesville. Don't be too proud to ask for help.
