Bye week teams

Have all lost or are losing...

Many reasons for that. But Georgia better be careful.

I was hoping for his sake that he'd transfer, because he definitely wasn't going to see the field next year.

There are a couple other guys on the team that will face the same fate in the next year or two.

Once we start to play and recruit at the Ohio State/Georgia/Alabama level, the mid tier/high average guys that we've known and love (because they are big gator fans) will start to dwindle. The culture may take a slight hit with high end prima donnas, but if the culture that Billy has been working on for the past 3 years is truly strong, then we may be ok.
Yeah good game, better second half. Would have liked the shutout, but we had 3-4th stringers in there, so it's to be expected.

We have been playing championship level defense down the stretch. We are getting some pieces on offense, but that side of the ball needs some improvement in play calling/selection/timing for us to compete at a high level (deep playoff run) next year.

Lagway obviously still playing injured. Not perfect, but gator fans are expecting that and not losing sleep over it.

Sellers is good too. He'll get his attention soon, don't worry.
I think he said it, hoping that Indiana would have played another good Big 10 team outside of Ohio State.

But yeah, that set up would be another loss for a SEC contender.

Not saying it's definitely going to happen. Just saying it's a fair expectation for year 4 at Florida. If you can't win 9 games by your 4th year, then what are we really doing?

Should just cut bait if the expectation next year is "improvement".

With the right off-season moved, wouldn't be far-fetched.

Most definitely. Anything less than 9 and we need to have some serious conversations moving forward.

re: Austin Armstrong a good DC?

Yes. I think Ron Roberts is definitely playing a part in the improvements as well. Plus the D-line coach got them looking fierce. Plus DB coach has improved tackling tremendously.

I kinda think Lagway has energized the defense as well. They think they actually have a shot to win games, or so it seems.

All around team effort.
Yes!!! Just like I called it :-/

I was ready to fire Billy again near the end, if we had lost this.
Billy has never been able to keep any little momentum we have. I hope I'm wrong, but expecting a big loss today.

It's funny how the perception of a coach or program can change based on one game or even one player. I guess that's why we have to evaluate these things at the end of the season.

1) We go 5-7, and Napier is absolute trash. Won't ever win here and will just try to ride DJ's coattails.

2) We go 6-6, and Napier sucks but we are "improving" and the guys are playing for him and should be a lot better next year. The narrative could then be that all the losses came from the hands of teams that were either all in playoff contention or ranked in the top 15. Win the bowl game, then 7-6 looks way better. First winning season in Napier era. We could then try to convince ourselves that we should be ranked in the 20-25 range, with a threat to challenge for a top 15 spot with the right offseason moves.

3) Go 7-5, Napier is the right guy and just needed time. Met expectations almost everyone had for the season with the slate before us. Same narrative applies about only losing to teams that are in playoff contention. Win a bowl game and go 8-5, Napier will get a contract extension and pay raise. Haha

I think the second scenario is most likely, with the bowl game really determining the offseason perception of Napier, recruiting, transfer portal, coaching hires, etc.
Absolutely. Wouldn't be surprised if we start the season ranked next year, just because of DJ Lagway (barring some catastrophe from here on out).

I keep wondering if Billy is gonna one day make a fool out of all of us.

...and then the alarm clock goes off.
No, I meant everyone alike can't be talking improvement next year. Admin, AD obviously committed to this guy. So they need to go down with the ship if that's where we are headed. Next year should be do or die.
lol. Can't be talking "improvement" in year 4 at UF. If that's the case everyone (coaches, UAA, AD, president, players, lunch lady) needs to just call it a day.
7 wins?! Napier needs to be fired if we can't win 9+ next year.

I assume that they'll be using the Lagway name to recruit not only portal players, but a decent offensive assistant staff. God forbid Lagway goes down for an extended period of time or has a change of heart, and that whole plan falls apart.

As it stands, Billy's offensive genius is not there, and depending on a transcendental QB to hide the offensive inadequacies will have its repercussions in the future.

I watched the Wednesday press conference last night. Billy did seem a little more giddy than usual (just a tad bit at least). He definitely knew by then he wasn't being fired.

Might have to sticky that purgatory thread if he doesn't at least make the right off field changes in a few weeks.
Billy should have been fired after the first few games of the season. Showing up that unprepared to play is a travesty.

As it becomes more and more apparent that the people in charge are ok with mediocrity and unwilling to pull the trigger, the fans have no other hope but to cope.

I think, at this point, focusing on the "improvements" is a coping mechanism by looking at the trees and not the forest. It at least makes supporting the players and team on a weekly basis more palatable.

I think and hope most fans can be honest though and say Billy built a good (not great) roster and culture...but he's not the guy to lead the charge any further. Personally, I don't think he has the killer instinct to win SEC/National Championships.

Maybe they're giving him till the end of the season out of respect for the little good he has done. For some reason though, I think he'll be here next year.
