"Why hasn't Kyle played up to this point? Why hasn't he played more this year and why didn't he play last year?

Kyle got hurt last year. He would've played in multiple games. HE WOULD HAVE STARTED IN MULTIPLE GAMES. And maybe would've been the incumbent starter this season. But because he was hurt, he broke his foot, and breaking your foot, where you're always putting weight on it, it's hard to bounce back from."

Franks was pulled and replaced by Del Rio
Del Rio gets hurt and replaced Franks
Franks gets pulled again and replaced by Malik
Malik gets hurt and replaced by Franks

Franks finishes the season because Trask was hurt all year last year and is still apparently suffering from his broken foot (hopefully not as bad as it sounds).

with the competition being so close, Franks ultimately beat him out due to his game experience.

eta: another interesting comment...

I always thought that Trask would have had a chance last year, but I think the thing that hurt him this year was that he has no personality.

Literally, kid's like a giant yam from Texas. I think he can win it by being good, but I think that's what got him the most THIS year.

Luke del Rio also said that he would start Trask (I'm not sure if that's what you linked) if it were up to him. Hate on Del Rio for being an a-hole, but he knows his Quarterback shite.

Yeah I just checked it out and I agree 1,000%.

Kyle deserves all of our support, and we know he has extremely little experience so he won't do well but he's done everything we asked him to do.

He could have easily transferred to a DII school this off-season, or even tried to go to a small G5 school and compete but he decided to stick with the Gators and support the team even when he was passed over.

If that don't bring a crocodile tear to the eye, nothing will.

Trask is probably just Del Rio 2.0. A decent game manager but won’t be able to go out and win games on his own. His arm isn’t that great so deep balls aren’t going to be a consistent threat. His zip isn’t great so short quick outs can be dangerous with tighter coverage or if defenders jump on the route. But he can read defense and move the offense well enough to let the defense win and score enough possibly.

But long term. We need more. Hoping Jones is that more

We would not have lost a game this year outside of Georgia (maybe) if Del Rio was still here.

ALL we've needed is a decent game manager who can throw downfield. That's it. Just a guy who can hit those passes.

Trask hit 7 of his 8 passes from intermediate range, two were drops, one was a throw away but it hit his receivers hands both times, and if the receivers had fought more they might have been able to catch them.

All we need is a guy to hit open receivers and not turn the ball over. He can do that, Franks can't. Even when Franks isn't pressured he doesn't hit targets.

Trask is good if he steps into his throws. Leads his target perfectly.

When he fades away from pressure or does not step into his throw, it is shite. Allows the DB to make a play on the ball or make a quick tackle.

I thought that during the game and a rewatch of Trask's throws confirms that observation. The only exception was the TD pass, that 10 makes a great diving catch.

Trask did spark the offense however he needs to step into his throws. Maybe he is worried about his foot.

Stepping into his throw and his Pocket Presence Clock is a lot easier to fix than:

Footwork.
Release.
Pocket Presence Clock.
Not drifting into pressure.
Not staring down a receiver once every two or three throws.
Throwing into coverage.
Throwing directly to DBs.
No vision, no 'feel'.
Missing wide open receivers.

I feel like Trask is fixable, I feel like he might be able to be a good Quarterback, maybe even great if he gets the attention he deserves and spends a year in Mullen's tutorship without Franks receiving more than him.

No that isn’t all we need. We need a true winner. We aren’t beating Bama with a manager. I want titles. I don’t want feel good ten win seasons. I want Florida to be scary. I don’t see Trask ever being more than good. You can’t win titles with good at QB now. Not with that Bama monster. So while I support Trask if he comes in, my long hope is Emory because I think he could be very, very scary. There is a reason Urban, Saban, etc wanted this kid. He is a very good prospect.

Trask for the rest of the year I’m absolutely cool with. But if he or Franks is the starter next year...I don’t think we are taking that second year step most championship level coaches take with either.

People overrate the shite out of del Rio because he got hurt and was the alternative to some bad QBs but he was a bad QB himself

I generally agree with his point and wish him the best in his podcast and douchey-Twitter persona business but I'm not upset he's not a QB at UF anymore

Same. We’ve lowered our standard on QBs so much a game manager is a dream somehow. I want a topic tier QB. One that has the arm, the legs, and the kind. There aren’t many of course. But Jones has the arm and the legs. If Mullen can get the mind...he could be very good in his offense. Trask is just limited so don’t see him ever being more than good.

Del Rio literally came in and saved Franks.

Del Rio is a knowledgeable Quarterback, and with the time that we've had, the pass protection we've had, he would absolutely be very successful in this offense.

To say otherwise is likely because you dislike him as a person, but his vision would have probably beaten UGA. Franks is literally responsible for 20 points against UGA, how many points did they beat us by again?

shite, Trask starting against Missouri and we might have had a chance. People underestimate just how bad Franks has been.

del Rio's career passer rating at UF was like 115

He had a good game against Kentucky but did not have a good career

For a "game manager" he had an awful 1:1 TD:INT ratio

He just wasn't good. If he was this stud game manager he probably wouldn't have been a walk-on before UF and wouldn't be running a podcast right now

I do agree with him about Trask, generally, though. He's fought through injuries and doesn't really get credit from most because he was under-the-radar as a recruit but I think he's got enough talent to not be awful and that's worth a shot over what Franks is giving us

Del Rio is not a willing runner. That is key to a Mullen offense.

He does not have the arm talent to overcome the lack of running.

He was a shite QB with the only value provided was helping the OL to get into the right run call. There is a reason TJ has not seen the field under Mullen.

shite, TJ and Del Rio do not have the talent to start for a program like UF. They were the best options at the time because Mac sucked.

I just found it funny that Franks liked it. Kinda gives me an idea about his personality.
