If you had influence in the program, who would you push for for OC?

I feel like this position has gone the way of the DC role. There aren't many big names out there now since the great ones from the 2010s are now all head coaches.

Are there any names out there that stand out to you guys?

If Billy is looking to keep the zone run concepts he seems insistent on using, then I would look at someone on the Dolphins or San Francisco staffs with some experience in college. I just wasted 5 minutes on both their websites, and no one really stood out to me. Honestly, that whole scheme doesn't make much sense to me because we are recruiting 6'8" 350 pound offensive lineman who don't really fit the mold for that style.

I think the most likely solution is promoting Callaway to Passing Game Coordinator and giving up play calling duties. You could even try it out this year without changing too much. I just wouldn't announce it to the public as I think that would be setting Callaway up for disaster when he doesn't have an offseason to install what he wants to run.

One candidate in my opinion, Shane Matthews. He doesn't even have to be OC, Passing game coordinator and play caller will work.

he's not even a coach.

I'd push for Washington's OC. But apparently he turned down Saban last year. Would be hard to pull.

Willie Korn at Liberty was a qb at Clemson when Napier was there. Learned under Chadwell who has an innovative offense and is currently the qb coach co-OC with Newland Isaac at Liberty. Offer him a promotion to OC (or make him co-OC and give him a pay raise and get him over here)

I'd be fine with Jeff Scott as he has coached WR and ST at Clemson, so maybe he could be a passing game coordinator or something like that. Terrible HC, but seemed solid as a coordinator.

So I'd knock on the door of UW's OC, if he turns me down, then I'd reach out to Korn/Scott and see if I could one or both of them over here.

Maybe make Scott WR coach/OC and Korn QB coach/OC.

After that, I'd tell Stapleton to hit the road, Sale too.

I'd take a look at Ed Warinner who is at FAU as OL coach and bring him in. He was pretty good at OSU at OL coach but kind of peter principled his way to OC which he wasn't as good at.

If he is willing to focus solely on OL, I'd take him.

Some message board rumors that Jeff Scott has allegedly been contacted for a OC/WR coach role in 2024.

Just rumors.

Not sure on him since he wasn't the play caller at Clemson and didn't have much talent at USF. My guess is he might be too much of a yes man if hired here but no top Power 5 OC is coming to UF with Billy on the hot seat in 2024 - so he might be the about the only option we have.

Former Clemson OC Jeff Scott takes on new coaching challenge: youth soccer
The 42-year-old decided against taking a college football job this season when he moved back to Clemson with his family
quote:

CLEMSON, S.C. —
After nearly twenty years as a college football coach, including more than a decade as a Tigers assistant, and the last three as head coach at South Florida, Jeff Scott is enjoying a slower speed of life after moving his family back to Clemson.

But once a coach, always a coach, and in taking a year off from college football, Scott has taken on a new coaching challenge: youth sports, overseeing his son Hunter's four and under soccer team in Clemson.

While Scott isn't ruling out a return to Dabo Swinney's staff down the road, his focus right now is on spending quality time with his family, and the orange team at Clemson's Nettles Park.

I guess we could cross him off the list.

Nothing too interesting.

Some were glad that he was reaching out to OCs, others were pissed that he didn't do it last off-season.

The general consensus was similar to Gator Fever's, some liked that it seemed achievable/realistic, Scott had a rep for being a good recruiter and had coached ST before, but others were concerned about the "yes man" factor.

I think Willy Korn could be an interesting one. He's been with Chadwell for pretty much his entire coaching career. Chadwell has a rep of running an innovative offense. And Napier knew Korn from Clemson. Unless a bigger name is realistically interested, Korn sounds like a solid prospect given his connection to Napier and offensive background.

Couple videos of the Chadwell/Korn offense. Some are game videos, others of Korn talking about different offensive concepts in a classroom setting:

Makes it more likely we may get him imo. What did he do back out of being an analyst at Clemson after they announced he would be.

I don't think they announced it. There just were rumors that he'd "love" to be back at Clemson:

Former Clemson offensive coordinator Jeff Scott would ‘love’ to return to Tigers

There's a paywall but the headline says all we really need to know.

As I posted above, Scott would've been 3rd on my tier list behind Korn (2nd tier) and UW's OC/some other hot name out there (1st tier).

I have the same concerns of the "yes man" stuff, but I think I'd rather have an OC that Napier can work with next season than not have one at all, and then next year we can worry if Scott will just be Napier's puppet.

At the end of the day, if Napier isn't smart enough to realize that his offense doesn't work or needs to start working ASAP, then he isn't the guy for this job.

Curious who we could get. I still think we can forget about any currently employed top Power 5 OC coming here next season if we go 6-6 or 5-7 this season.

While Kerwin would be an upgrade, he is more a traditional offensive coach. I like Kerwin a lot and have followed his career. I really want a pass happy guy that spreads the field and passes to open up the run, a Steve Spurrier kind of coach, that is why I like Shane Matthews.
