For those of us old enough to remember….(Lagway related)

Do any posters here remember Chris Leak’s career? He came out the block starting as a freshman under Urban Meyer. Took some lumps but overall had some pretty awesome game performances.
Then he was pretty pedestrian his sophomore and junior years. We took aome losses due to lack of offensive production. It was pretty frustrating.
Then, his senior season in 2006 was great and Chris and Tebow complemented each other (long drive management, red zone scoring).
Fast forward to now. I just hope DJ doesn’t have a falling off after his great first year start.
Thoughts?

Leak played in 2003 and 2004 under Zook.
Was 20 years ago but remember him being real solid both those years.
In 2005 in Urban's 1st year he struggled adapting to Meyer's offense. Around the Georgia game Meyer finally adapted the offense to Leak and we got a lot better.
Only reason Leak had somewhat of an off year cause he wasn't comfortable running the spread option.
There shouldn't be any situation like that with Lagway I don't think. But he did have an off game vs FSU. I'm sure he will have 1 or 2 next year as well.

Oh yeah. The spread did have a learning curve to it. M
Still Chris wasn’t extremely great in 2004 since Zook got fired.
Of course, it could be more due to all those damn bubble screens by Ed Zaunbrecher.
I hope DJ keeps getting better.

Most should, it was not that long ago.

Yes Leak did have issues that first year with Meyer and Mullen offense
But under Zook Chris put up some great stats
I will always remember him going into Kitten stadium and beating #1 LSU
LSU blitzed almost every down and he found Ran Carthon wide open 2 or 3 times for touchdowns.

It was the only loss for that LSU BCS title team that year. They left the middle of the field undefended the whole game and Leak picked them apart with short passes.

Leak was a great college QB. Similar to Danny. Lagway has tools that we have never seen at UF before besides maybe Cam. We just need to get him protection and weapons. We've got a 2 year window with him, need to make the most of it.

IMO, Leak was a top 6 QB at UF, joining Tebow, Danny, SOS, Rex and Shane. Just ahead of Bell and Peace.

I am good with that list. Would probably add Trask, since he had a similar resume to Rex. Rex was way more fun to watch though.

If he puts in the work in bowl practice and spring he should be fine.
I'm worried about the players around him/ especially OL and OC. This schedule isn't going to be easy but he played most of them this year already so hopefully that knowledge pays dividends.

Thanks for making me feel old. I was in undergrad at UF during the Leak/Tebow years
