We're already losing Faulkner to Southern Miss?

he interviewed. but it seems like Hugh Freeze is the front runner.
Sumrall got the idea of a buyout for assistants from Drinkwitz back when they were in the Sunbelt together. Sumrall's assistants were getting poached left and right while he was at Troy, and Drinkwitz told him to put buyouts on them during the offseason.
a couple of weeks/months later, Drinkwitz himself had to poach a coach for his Mizzou staff from Troy.
this story was in Sumrall's interview with Josh Pate earlier this year.

The staff looks very good so far.

this just means he'll be gone in a year or two, and it will probably cause inconsistency with the offense a la Muschamp/Weis.

Who cares he’s one of the best OC in the country. Let’s enjoy this next season.

So you would rather not hire a top 3-5 OC in the country? Confused.

do y'all not remember what happened last time we had a defensive coach hire a big OC name?
he stayed for a year
settled for some podunk OC in year 2-3.
shite hit the fan
settled for another poduck OC in year 4
shite hit the fan again
proceeded to fire the HC
rinse
repeat

I would rather have Buster and if we have to re-rack it in a year or two, so be it.

Muschamp had never been a HC before, a bit different situation. He also had a shitty offensive philosophy in general which handicapped the OCs.
Can’t be fearful of hiring good coaches because they may or may not leave us.

I’d prefer stability.
What would yall prefer?
Scenario 1:
- 7-5 or 8-4 in the first year.
- OC stays
- 10-2 or better in second year.
- OC stays again.
- possible natty
Scenario 2:
- 7-5 or 8-4 in the first year.
- OC leaves.
- 7-5 or 8-4 in the second year.
- maybe the 2nd OC stays for another year.
- maybe 10-2 in third year.
- maybe they stay again…
- maybe a natty in 4th year.

Finch the solution to your dilemma is hire Art Briles as OC
We’ll score tons of points, win a bunch of games, and other programs will be hesitant to hire him away.
But you know our Disney UAA would never do that…

Saban, Smart, etc are defensive coaches......you think every defensive coach is bad? I like offense at Florida too but great minds can be on either side of the ball...
If not..wouldn't every game look like a Basketball score?

that wasn't the point.
the point is.... faulkner hasn't even called his first play, yet, and he already has eyes elsewhere.

What does a GM do? Just wondering.

Not sure what our GM will do but while watching the Texas Tech game last weekend the announcers said their GM had the power to sign/offer NIL money to recruits. The announcers said this left the coaching staff to focus on the on field product. Not sure if their GM is fully responsible for recruiting but I like the idea of a GM having that as at least a part of their responsibilities.

Probably mostly will deal with NIL type stuff. I am curious how Indiana is doing so good with so few Blue Chippers on their roster. They must be good at getting players in the portal that work out real good. I don't think we have done a good job with the portal. TT was given a big amount of money to use and went out and bought a hired gun defense. It seems like except for WR a lot of our portal signings haven't worked out that good.Last year we brought in about the fewest portal players of any FBS team I think.

Stricklin gave a pretty good explanation on his interview with Andy Staples. Starts at about 22 min in.
Stricklin said the GM would act as a high level executive who would handle everything outside coaching and be a partner to the head coach with things like roster construction. So things like NIL, recruiting, transfer portal and team travel. Neither report to one another, both report to the AD. I totally agree with him in that there is no way a coach can handle the responsibilities of modern college football coaching on his own, so having more of an NFL model would be really helpful to the coach.
