True, some teams have always got more commits than they could even keep due to roster restrictions just to make their class look better.

Ppl trip on rankings too much.
I look at players added where we needed upgrades / depth
Like shown here, if we just offered any dozen 3 stars we are right with everyone else.

True. However, we did lose some top players and our numbers are pretty low. Nothing Napier has done so far has inspired any faith that he'll make up for it in the portal as he's shown to be mediocre at best with portal acquisitions.
Maybe he'll prove me wrong, but up until this point he's mostly proven me wrong in ways that I did not want him to prove me wrong rather than when I doubted him.

He did prove me wrong in a good way with Mertz, and that was a good portal acquisition as well as coaching job. He deserves his kudos for that 100%.

I agree. Billy needs impact players right now. 4/5 star unproven high school guys, though nice and important for the future, is not going to help Billy with next year's schedule.
His future will be based on the coaches and portal players he brings in this year.

Rankings mostly tell if you can be a true playoff contender in the SEC. If you aren't near the top in the SEC with 5 stars and high 4 stars you are at a big disadvantage. Ole Miss this year which would have probably got a 12 team bid is probably the ceiling without that if you are real good with the portal.

Having good players on your team and class rankings aren’t the same
As we just showed, a team with 16 3 star players and a few 4s can “rank” ahead of teams with more 4 star players.
If we went and just grabbed a dozen more random 3s, we’d have a top class.

Pup Howard just entered the portal. We may have been tampering and are the team to look for. Would be nice to shore up the LB room.

We got nowhere near where we need to be to compete to be near the top in the new SEC especially considering our portal moves. Something like 8 teams including FSU look like they could have done better than us after all the decommits we had.
